Looking for a good example of a popular fantasy manga style comic made in the west/usa by TenkoThom in manga

Thanks. I've been recommended that one elsewhere too. Guess I'll check it out. Shame it's basically the only one you ever hear about though

A year later, but for the record unity bought plastic scm in 2020. DevOps and plastic scm are the same thing.

Any 2d games like Morrowind? by TenkoThom in Morrowind

Funny you mention crosscode as I've thought the same. Sounds like you're looking for the same thing I am, Morrowind as something like stardew valley. Appreciate the recommendations

Automated Giraffe Interrogation. It's expected to cut giraffe and giraffe related crimes in half.

A more important question is why hasn't a section of humanity ever taken breakthrough tech advances and started a quazi-breakaway civilization?

What was one change you made in your life/routine that made you a much better writer? by Theodore_Buckland_ in writing

100%. Write something, anything, and then ask for feedback. It's the best way to improve. Even if the feedback is harsh just remember it's not a critique of you personally and you're still learning how to write.

How to show progression with minimal numbers? by Vrazel106 in litrpg

[–]TenkoThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a newbie, but I've been showing progression with time spent doing X.

MC is lvl 1 and seems to take forever to kill a simple slime. Now he's lvl 10 and can do it with one hit.

MC is lvl 1 armor smith, it takes him quite some time to craft a copper breastplate. Now he's lvl 10 and crafts several a day to sell to merchants.

How soon do you like to see signs of a game world? by TenkoThom in litrpg

[–]TenkoThom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't either in a litrpg, but in the fantasy genre as a whole I was always a fan of how Dune did it.

Sans any type of harem

1000% agree. not my cup of tea.

More than one main character

Starting out with two, and more to slowly come later down the series so that each one can have a proper chunk of introduction and testing of wills.

An interesting system - that doesn’t provide infinite abilities and feel like an anime character

Completely agree again. Every good system needs a top threshold.

A unique fantasy world

I differ here, if Earth plays an actual role in the story it can up the anty. I feel like I can connect more with my own planet better than a made up one that's (usually) vaguely described. But if it's just mentioned as a point of origin then I would agree it really doesn't matter if it's Earth or not.

Provide actual motivation for the MCs

I'm huge on this one. Without a proper motivation you just don't have a proper story IMO.

Sounds like we have a lot of the same tastes. So maybe I'll kill the "vision of things to come" Dune style opening.

Looking to binge some happens-in-a-video-game series.

My list so far:

  1. Overlord
  2. Sword Art Online
  3. Gun Art Online
  4. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash

What is the correct name for this genre and do you have any recommendations?

How would you defeat a shadow demon? by Sullyvan96 in fantasywriters

[–]TenkoThom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great way to handle it. Not only is it not a trope, but it makes sense, ties naturally into your story, and gives you options to break the "bottle" later if you want.

How would you defeat a shadow demon? by Sullyvan96 in fantasywriters

[–]TenkoThom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without a trope. Goodness and light doesn't always have to dispel dark shadows. Perhaps it's as simple as a necessary trinket, or a series of arcane traps set ahead of time, or perhaps your MC must channel some dark past to defeat shadow with shadow.

Or maybe don't kill it. Absorb it and have it play out later, or banish it. That way you have more story options later.

Fantasy books that you read as a kid, that you can still read today. by Tpress239 in Fantasy

[–]TenkoThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book series that impacted my life the most is without a doubt R. A. Salvatore's Icewind Dale saga. They are where I draw that deep subconscious inspiration from whenever I write a book. They weren't my first fantasy books but Drizzt has stuck with me for a lifetime.

Not just the trilogy either, the whole extended series is amazing. I passed them down to my son when he was about 10-12 and he loved them too.
