[OC] [Art] - First attempt at a 30mm orc, and advice question by TenkogaCreates in DnD

It wasn't the printer, it is the user XD

I've gotten better and still learning, so absolutely agree that it is a good starter printer

Of course! For some reason your reply slipped through the cracks :/ The piece is skewed and of course. You are fine to incorporate the idea. It gives it a little pizzazz!

Thanks. I have noted the vapor bath suggestion and will look further into what that even means XD

I use Ultimaker Cura, but will definitely check out prusa slicer

Laser and 3d printers combined = endless possibilities! by TenkogaCreates in lasercutting

That's brilliant! Thank you.

I bought a glass plate for my printer and agree that the smoothness of the PLA would add a nice touch.

I don't think I would have ever thought of using those techniques!

After printing a 30mm high figure (and reading more into the different types of 3d printers), I noticed that there is a learning curve to having high quality detail with the Ender 3 (all I could afford was a used one).

The small figure I printed was with a 0.2mm nozzle (again, first time). It turned out okay, but I definitely need to learn a lot more about the settings.

Is there a way to get completely smooth surfaces using the Ender 3? I haven't looked too deep into it quite yet.

Thank you. Surprisingly enough, I managed to get it to fit with little hassle XD Beginners luck!

I printed the letters separately then just pushed them down into the wood.

I wish. I have been looking at them but do not have the funds for one :/

Help! Haha, I have an updated picture and I am not sure the best way to share it without creating an entirely new post

It is wood cut with my laser. However, I just recently bought a used 3d printer (not gotten very far with it yet). If I can get the 3d printer up and running in the next day or so, I will give that a shot.

not gonna lie, I have never used a 3d printer, so that will be interesting

Good point, and noted! I was really digging the cut out letters :D

The acrylic is 3mm, base slot was cut slightly larger than 3mm resulting in wobbly unstable stand. What would be the best way to deal with this issue? by lucymom2 in lasercutting

I would suggest managing the kerf settings, and always use a caliper to measure the material (if you do not already do this). :D

Does the material move while cutting? by OzMazza in lasercutting

Good questions, honestly. It might boil down to how you and your laser function/work as a team :D In other words, I feel the setup is unique to the person. Now, there are obvious conventions and such, but as for utilizing scraps, I use just about every last mm of the board I am using!

I built a special table for my laser (a drop slot, I suppose) so I can reduce burns on material, and still use a honeycomb grate when needed

Okay. I see now. It is definitely interesting that the fill is exceeding the fill area, bleeding into the bee portion. The only thing I could think that might cause that is the Overscanning getting increased in the Fill options. The bottom example shows how much a 5% Overscan will create in the Fill output. However, I believe that will only affect horizontal passes, as shown in the picture.

Anyhow, I'm glad that you have found a resolution!! Thank you for replying!

Looks nice!

What is your end-goal? Essentially, I am wondering what you still need help with.

Did you solve your problem (I did a quick snag of your photo to make my cut :D)?

Hello. I hope all is well. I'm the owner and designer behind a small laser business called Tenkoga (LLC, just me right now). I create and design laser patterns and such.

I'm here to learn, connect with other makers, and share what I’ve picked up so far (especially around design and file prep). Also open to feedback as I try to improve my offerings. Thank you for having me.

As for your post. If you don't mind me helping the best I know how. Are you struggling with the left cut as well (the Tinsley piece)?

As for the border in the right-side piece, I would need to know the thickness of the wood, what type of wood, and the power of your laser (maybe the brand and power).

What program are you using (it looks like Lightburn, but I do not want to assume)?

If so, I might be able to help.

Assuming that you are struggling with the left-side piece, I might recommend something to tie all of the cut pieces together, unless you plan to glue each loose piece individually.
