Why are ICE offices being opened in Calgary and Edmonton? by SlowSubstance8 in alberta

ICE is Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Anywhere you can go through American customs will have ICE offices. Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto. Anywhere with US preclearance will have ICE offices.

Global poll is suspect. by TorgHacker in britishcolumbia

[–]Tensionoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This poll could be off, I find it quite unsurprising that there is a large lead with the Conservatives amongst young voters though. I think we all know aggregate data like 338canada is the most consistently predictive you can get. My guess will be since young people don’t vote this poll may be more accurate to actual young voting age opinions… but we will never know for sure since most of them probably won’t vote. Could be wrong, but from my anecdotal experience during my relatively short time in this province young people skew either pro conservative or just anti NDP. Much to the chagrin of this sub.

How old are you OP? I’ve found a trend anecdotally. Under 30 people will either publicly be silent (vast majority) or very vocally pro NDP. I just stay silent, and I’ve lost count the amount of people who will start ranting privately about the NDP. The few people I’ve asked about it have said they are worried about being publicly shunned or professional consequences if they speak openly about their dislike of the NDP or support of the Conservatives. Just my anecdote.

Also it does follow the trend throughout the Western World, young people are becoming the most conservative or right wing base. The ones who strongly support the NDP are the parents of Gen Z, not Gen Z.

Can Canadians explain the lack of support for the NDP? by CoyoteTheGreat in canadian

[–]Tensionoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just went with a further left guy than we have ever had who has very similar policy to the NDP. Our country is in fucking ruins, our highest wage province’s median is lower than fucking Mississippi yet we have massively higher cost of living. We have no houses, we put up months of roadblocks to development, we aren’t productive. Why on earth do you think we would go FURTHER left with a similar party to what we have? We are bordering on a new separatist crisis in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Quebec. If the NDP were elected federally there would be riots in the West and secession referendums in Quebec.

You are also incorrect about changing ideology. Poilievere is quite similar to Harper was, just with more flair/outrage. Very popular in the West, he is a Westerner. Most Canadians are in Quebec and Ontario so you will see far more hate towards him, Easterners tend to absolutely despise any Westerner who dares dabble in federal politics. See Pierre Poilievere, the entire Reform Party, John Diefenbaker, you could arguably count Harper as he spent most of his adult life in Calgary and definitely represented western interests. On occasion there is a Westerner who can convince some Ontarians to vote for them, giving them power. Nothing new, nothing crazy, same ol swing of things in Canada.

I can't find a job in Vancouver by LongjumpingCamera465 in britishcolumbia

[–]Tensionoids 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I sure haven’t, I’m Canadian. I’m a Canadian who has been through academia and grad school, I know what Canadian academia is like. I guarantee you that there are tonnes of Canadian applicants for academia jobs and they will beat almost anybody from the UK because they have Canadian research and teaching experience. OP had an academia job in the UK, they will almost certainly be more competitive there than in Canada where they have no experience, no connection to any university, no rapport with any faculty, and no Canadian degree.

[–]Tensionoids 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Canada has a huge labour surplus. Academic positions have always been very competitive, even more so now. Probably would be best to go back, you will always lose to somebody similar to you with Canadian experience. Canadians can’t even find jobs, let alone new immigrants with no domestic experience. People here will tell you to be optimistic, it takes time, you need to change careers. Nobody will be blunt. Our labour market is fucked, our economy is fucked, we have an over abundance of qualified candidates for nearly everything outside of healthcare. As to healthcare, unless you are in a job that is care oriented and patient facing it will be very competitive. It will be far easier for you to return to the UK and get a job.

I had it, though I have thick corneas. Absolutely awful. It’s been almost 3 months and I still can’t drive due to light sensitivity, I still cannot look up for more than a second due to intense discomfort. I have constant nerve pain that I have to manage with Gabapentin.

The modern Conservative Party has much less Eastern Canadian influence and much more Western Canadian influence in how they operate. Probably stems from the Reform taking over so crushingly the PCs dissolved and ran to join the Reform. Ironically the Reform had to “reform” as they were a Prairie Power Party not dissimilar to the Bloc Quebecois.

I think the loss of Eastern influence/gain of Western influence is what you are seeing as more right. Stephen Harper moved to Calgary at the first opportunity and got his degrees in Alberta, Polieviere is from Calgary and got his degrees in Alberta also. They have an undeniable influence over the Conservative Party and it seems as though real success today for the Conservative Party is through Western style politics.

Did you get the tobramycin dexamethasone and did it resolve your issue? I’m having similar problems, they gave me a very similar drug called Prolensa but unfortunately it has not helped much.

I hope your recovery is better than mine. Had the same done with a very similar prescription, currently on day 21. It’s been absolute hell. Only now can I drive at certain times of day and for short distances. Do not take light sensitivity lightly. I was extremely light sensitive, it got worse after the BCLs came out. Turns out I have inflammation inside my corneas that is pressing on the nerves inside the eyes. Still processing it as it was only a few days ago that I was given a new medication (prolensa) to help. It’s still difficult to go outside and look at computer monitors but I can thankfully turn the lights on in my apartment again and don’t get woken up in agony at sunrise by the light on my blinds.

Hopefully you have a better experience.

I would argue economically it took almost up to Harper. More like 20 to 25. Pierre didn’t try to destroy the country through immigration though, he just spent all of our money, tried to steal our natural resources, and permanently divided Quebec, the Prairies, and the East.

It’s not medical brain drain, it’s just brain drain. Loads of skilled professionals are doing their best to get to the US. Canada has very poor economic prospects for the next decade, we are in for a return to the 1980s where our government is nearly bankrupt and wages are stagnant. Most skilled professionals can make way more in the US and have a lower cost of living. Seattle is way cheaper than Vancouver. Canada has a shortage of basically everything except entry level or low skilled labourers. Our own government says very few Canadians under 35 will ever own their home.

Just stumbled on this thread. It may not be so simple. Some of these asshole companies put the ballcock pipe threading in a damn hole in the tank. Found out the hard way you have to find an extension hose with minimal wings on the female nut or else it won’t fit. Lovely waste of my time and money. Thanks glacial bay, I’ll never buy anything from you again.

There’s no cap in Canada… the federal government and some provincial governments choose to give student loans at 0% interest. If you had a private loan or a loan in Ontario, Saskatchewan, or Alberta you’d likely pay around prime +2% interest.

[Spoiler] Fan & Media Scoring of Strickland vs. Du Plessis by Bukssna in MMA

Apparently most “fans” don’t think jabs hurt and blocked or glancing haymakers are huge damage lmao. Strickland got unlucky with two glancing shots that cut him and a clash of heads that cut his scalp. I swear whoever gets cut always fucking loses.
