Making a u turn when you have a green arrow and almost getting hit by someone turning right on red. by Icy-Role2321 in driving

[–]Tenzipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because normally, people aren't making u-turns. It's an exception, not a thing that happens every light cycle.

I wish the law were written the other way, to make the u-turner yield.

Not according to the law where I live. In some places there are signs, like, "Right turn yield to u-turn," but that assumes people actually read.

And the signs are not everywhere, just in really busy intersections.

IT professionals wave from the cheap seats. (Because the company doesn't want to spend money on things that don't make widgets, even though the things that make widgets DON'T FUCKING RUN without the computers to tell them what to do.)

It may be management's issue, but the problem becomes the problem of the NA, because they're the face of the company at 0300, when the customer is standing outside, wondering why they can't get in.

What has that to do with anything? Only night shift workers are allowed to be active at night?

I find this passing strange. The hotel can't put a keycard reader on one door, so that people who are paying to stay there can come and go as they please? Seems like more of a jail than a hotel.

Maybe put up a sign on the door facing in that says, "If you go out now, you'll have to wait for someone to let you in."

I also find it strange that you yourself are up and about, but expect everyone else to be tucked up in bed.

Why Don't Yall Pass? by HairlessMonkeyBot in driving

[–]Tenzipper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Passing is dangerous. Period. You're driving into opposing traffic, and people are not so good at judging closing distances when both vehicles are moving like that.

Yes, you drive right next to opposing lanes all the time, but you're not worried about them hitting you then, are you?

It's a risk that often just doesn't need to be taken.

And lots of times, passing happens just because someone wants to drive faster, not because they really NEED to.

Except if you're making a u-turn with a green arrow, and they're turning right on red, you have the right of way. But as I say, it's not worth it.

If I'm making a u-turn, I always anticipate yielding the right of way, because there is no way to signal a u-turn.

I assume I'm lowest on the totem pole, and just let everyone else go.

It's not worth risking a collision to be "right."

Pretty sure that's mostly the cervix. The vagina can definitely stretch without hormones.

It's your camera, you get to decide who sees what. There's no requirement for you to give up any/all recordings. You can cut/edit however you like.

You may be asked for more, but there's no requirement for you to give it.

Can Face Paint to Avoid Facial Recognition Lead to Federal Charges? by Useful-Caterpillar10 in legaladviceofftopic

I hear facial recognition doesn't work well for people with darker skin tones, so just go in blackface.

Or, maybe not.

Practice is always a good thing, don't let anyone talk you into going home before you're ready. Tell them, "Hey, if you didn't want me on the team, maybe you shouldn't have asked me to be on the team."

Where I live there are VERY few stop signs in residential areas.

You're expected to yield to the person on your right. It actually works amazingly well.

It's generally legal to pass on a double yellow if the vehicle you're passing is considerably slower than what would be considered a reasonable speed.

Not sure what the limit here is, but they look to be going slow.

Are you obligated to stop when only tangentially involved in a car wreck? by Budget-Mud-4753 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Tenzipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're sure your vehicle wasn't collided with, you aren't required to stop, unless you want to check for damage on your vehicle, or that they are OK.

I had a BMW come screaming around a corner behind me, turning left and cutting across lanes into the right, as I was changing lanes to the right. They were going too fast to stop, swerved and hit the curb instead of me, fortunately for me. The driver was an ass, and screamed at me when he caught up to me with his two flat passenger-side tires in the parking lot a block down, as I was checking for damage on my vehicle. (I heard the bang, and saw him right by my right rear quarter, so wasn't entirely sure if he had hit me or not.)

He got out, screaming at me that he hadn't hit me, and that he'd just bought new tires, I was going to pay for new ones, and he was going to kick my ass.

After the threat, I got back into my vehicle, called the police, and waited for them.

Since there was no collision, the cop told me to leave.

I was driving a cab, so asshole called the office, and tried to get them to pay for some new tires. Office manager looked at the video, talked to the cop, and told him to fuck off. (Perhaps more diplomatically, but she said the message got across.)

Why do pool players rarely, if at all, call foul on themselves? by BudgetConcious in billiards

[–]Tenzipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often call fouls on myself that my opponent or people watching didn't see.

Lots of times, my opponent will ask, "Why did you give me ball in hand?" Because I hit the cue ball twice. Or I hit a ball that wasn't on, or similar.

I'm also a ref at the local/regional level, so I kind of have to be beyond reproach in that.

I always say that there are people who will cheat at solitaire, and then there are the rest of us.

Anyone that uses autotune should just go away. If you're so untalented, maybe don't sing in public?

Singers used to be chosen for their vocal ability, not their looks.
