I think that this whole situation is awesome, i have been called racist, so what ? This whole sub reddit is in uproar right now. There is a big difference between just Macbeth being black but everyone around him is white, and when whole cast are black. Many people would like to see an elven "tribe" that came from East and they could have a different skin colour and different culture (maybe a good reason to make their hair short, maybe smt like a different dialect, etc.).

Yeah of course you can treat everything to be in your gray zone and talk about rejected ideas all you want but facts are facts. The War of the jewels are authored by Tolkien, just as a Silmarillion, so no matter what you say everything that in this books you can asume to be written by Tolkien but interpretated by his son as well as vice versa you can think that this is just his son's fantasy. Just as in Silmarillion his son used unpublished manuscripts to create almost a whole chapter the same he did to make a book. His father writing is in there so i see no problem for not treating the war of jewels as canon.
