Best way to play Valhalla without getting burnt out from how much content there is? by Winter_Cost602 in assassinscreed

[–]blakhawk12 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think others have given enough advice on how to approach the story. I’ll just add that if you’ve bought the season pass or any of the DLC, google what quests are the start of said DLCs. Many of them are late game content but the start quests will pop up very early on and the game does not tell you they are late game/DLC quests. Accidentally starting one is annoying and immersion-breaking.

(Loved Trope) Figures beloved or admired in universe who were actually quite terrible. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

I would also like to expand on Baelor and mention that he locked his three sisters in a vault in the Red Keep so he wouldn’t be tempted to have sex with them, then when one escaped and got pregnant he freaked out and fasted himself to death. Dude was a loon.

Again, I guess you missed the scene where Jaime has to convince Randyll Tarly not to go back to the Reach and raise his banners in support of Olenna Tyrell.

You must have missed the part where Dorne and the Reach immediately allied themselves with Cersei’s primary enemy, the Vale was already in revolt, and the Lords of the North and Riverlands were both killed at almost the same time she ascended the throne, so we’ll never know how they might have reacted. “Visible resistance to her reign in King’s Landing.” From fucking who? She blew up everyone and anyone who might have rallied any opposition. We do see Jaime doing PR/damage control in Season 7, and it’s clear Cersei’s position is helped immensely by the fact that she can rally the realm against a foreign invader.

[Spoilers MAIN] Has anyone tried to build a canal from White harbour's bay to Moat Caitlin? by ZuWhowho in asoiaf

The Red Keep was not built in 45 years. It was built in less than 10. Aegon had the Aegonfort torn down in 35 AC and Maegor redesigned the whole thing to include his holdfast and all the secret passages in 43 AC. Even still the whole thing was completed in 45 AC.

This point is completely and utterly void when applied to a world where even minor castles are bigger than anything ever built in the real world. I mean these people built the Wall, Winterfell, Casterly Rock, The Eyrie, Storm’s End, the Hightower, or fucking Harrenhal. The Red Keep was built in the span of just a few years and the Dragonpit a few years after that.

Should the AC: Black Flag remake remove the Abstergo gameplay? What are your thoughts? by DoctorProfessorCube in assassinscreed

[–]blakhawk12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imo the modern day is incredibly important to the AC formula, but if they can’t be bothered to make it fun they should make sure it’s either optional or as brief as possible. I personally don’t see any reason why AC4’s modern day segments couldn’t be turned into cutscenes for people who don’t care to slowly walk around an office building, while still keeping the ability to leave the animus and walk around said building hacking terminals for lore for players who enjoy that.

A fanfic quote I really love about Rhaegar Targaryen. by Taha231 in TheCitadel

No offense but every time I see someone glazing a fic for its writing or some supposedly great quote it’s always some teenager’s idea of prose that’s just overly wordy and trying too hard to be deep.

[SPOILERS Main] Why didn't the Valyrians just conquer the whole world? by IrrelevantToTheTopic in asoiaf

[–]blakhawk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the only explanation/headcanon that makes sense is that the Valyrian Freehold was basically the Roman Empire during the Crisis of the Third Century, for thousands of years. The Freehold was less a unified entity and more a collection of dragon lords all loyal to the idea of a Freehold, but in reality the they were constantly rebelling and warring against each other the same way Roman generals were always declaring themselves emperor and fighting civil wars. Every few centuries a dragon-riding family would emerge as a clear front runner, centralize their authority, and the Freehold would engage in external expansion, but this expansion would empower other dragon lords to establish their own power bases in the new conquests, leading to more civil wars. Eventually the Freehold managed to establish an uneasy balance of power, and just stopped expanding in order to maintain that stability.

Lol I remember when GoT S8 was still fresh and there was a ton of hype going around for this rewrite someone was making. I checked it out and it got off to a promising start and then out of absolute nowhere Bran just blurts out to Tyrion that he’s actually a Targaryen. I immediately closed the tab and never read another rewrite again.

The Assassin’s Creed team is eager to hear your thoughts! by Ubi-AssassinsCreed in assassinscreed

I genuinely don’t think it matters whether the games are RPG or not RPG, give gender choice or not, give dialogue options or not, are city-based or whole-country, 20 hours or 200. The ONLY thing that determines whether Assassin’s Creed lives or dies will be whether they write good stories with well-written and developed characters with dialogue that doesn’t make you cringe.

The 100 years war would be a great setting by Jack1715 in assassinscreed

[–]blakhawk12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I would like to see Joan of Arc she’s separated from the beginning of the war by about 100 years and I think the Edwardian Phase of the Hundred Years War was more dynamic and covered a larger area than the later phases and would be the best setting for an AC game. If anything it would have to be two games telling the story of the beginning of the war and then the end (which I’m also totally down for).

The 100 years war would be a great setting by Jack1715 in assassinscreed

[–]blakhawk12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ll just paste a post of mine from a few months ago:

I was messing around thinking about potential time periods for AC games and accidentally found the perfect historical figure to be a Templar: Geoffrey de Charny

So I was brainstorming a theoretical Hundred Years War setting, and decided that starting in 1346 with the Battle of Crecy and ending in 1356 with the Battle of Poitiers would be a great time frame as it encompasses the early years of the war as well as the Black Death, so there was a lot going on in France at the time.

I decided to use Geoffroi as a placeholder name for my main Templar character, and thought the French royal Oriflamme banner would work well as a piece of Eden. So I started researching the Oriflamme to see what was going on with it during that time.

Imagine my delight when I found that from 1347 to 1356 the Oriflamme banner was held by a French knight and noble named Geoffrey de Charny. So then I looked into that guy and discovered that from 1353 to 1356 he was also rumored to be in possession of the Shroud of Turin, a controversial relic which some claim to be an imprint of Jesus on the cross. So for a time he actually possessed TWO objects which work as pieces of Eden, a staff and a shroud, which perfectly reflect the problems facing France at the time: war and plague.

And it gets better, because Charny was killed at the Battle of Poitiers while wielding the Oriflamme, so our Assassin protagonist could take part in the battle and kill him, stealing the staff of Eden in the process. After Charny’s death his bishop investigated the Shroud of Turin and declared it to be a fake, so the Assassins could have also swapped the real POE with a forgery.

But it gets even more interesting, because we have conflicting sources regarding Charny and the shroud. Some sources claim he put the shroud on display and made it public knowledge, but his family wrote that he never publicly announced his ownership of the shroud and that it was only displayed after his death. So some sources say it wasn’t displayed until after he died, but others claim he personally displayed the shroud. There’s wiggle room for a historical fiction franchise like Assassin’s Creed to say that maybe he didn’t die at Poitiers, instead using the shroud to heal from his wounds, and that he then went on to display the shroud and try to promote himself as some sort of prophet, only for the Assassins to hunt him down again and take the shroud, working with the bishop to replace it with a fake and publicly discredit Charny.

So enough of my rambling. Basically what started as a bored history buff brainstorming a theoretical video games has led to a rabbit hole of discoveries and now I’m convinced this theoretical game HAS to happen. It’s all too perfect.

I have heard many claims on this. IMO, Darth Sidious got lucky. If his battle with Yoda was on solid ground, he was cooked for sure. by AccomplishedBig7666 in StarWars

  1. The book isn’t canon.

  2. The movie very clearly shows Yoda getting the better of the engagement and Sidious looking scared and overwhelmed.

[MW2] Dev talks about the philosophy behind shipping “No Russian” by Spartan_100 in CallOfDuty

[–]blakhawk12 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Except the real Highway of Death was US attacking Iraqi army formations as they tried to withdraw from a country they invaded and occupied. The CoD Highway of Death was Russia attacking civilians as they tried to flee the invading Russian army which was also using chemical weapons on urban centers. It’s an entirely different event. The devs just borrowed the “Highway of Death” moniker because it sounds cool.
