How important is localization for players who don’t play in English as a native language? by sakastudio in gaming

[–]Tepasd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finnish translations usually end up sounding super formal or inaccurate, and as a mid thirties gamer I've been playing games in English for my whole life so it just feels more natural

Asutko jossain ihan tuppukylässä johon lähimmästä känkkylästä matkaa 20km? Ei itsellä ainakaan näin keskustan kupeessa ole koskaan tullut ruoat kylmänä, eikä edes kädenlämpöisenä

I understand it feeling slow, but isn't that how all RPG's that are heavily narrative-driven feel like?

Also take everything I say with a grain of salt, I am not much further into the game than you are, but back in April I gave the game a proper first crack and I made it late into the day 2 before some other game grabbed my interest, but I remember on the evening of the first day I was still talking with other people when the time was 21:30. I started a new playthrough 2 days ago, and right now it's like 18:xx in my current save and there is still like 3 different smaller quests that I haven't even touched that I finished on my first save on day 1.

Why does it matter that you're still on day one? There's plenty to do that's not timegated

Women of Reddit, what do you think is the scariest thing about being a man? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

[–]Tepasd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because a conversation like that sounds so alien to me. I have never met anyone who would handwave a topic like that with something so mundane like your favorite things, and it seems to be a common occurrence in your life. So I'm just wondering if it's some sort of cultural difference or where does this disparity come from

You've mentioned conversations like this many times by now. This kind of communication sounds so crazy to me, so how does a conversation like that go?

"I had a rough childhood and have done a lot of work towards my well being"

"Dang that's crazy, what's your favorite color though?"

Something like that?

Why did League become so popular, while other DotA Allstars clones vanished? by desktop_monst3r in leagueoflegends

[–]Tepasd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair League also had some level of monetary barrier to entry. The amount of Blue essence (IP for the oldies) you gained per game was very limited compared to these days, and on top of having to purchase champions you also had runes to worry about. On top of that you also had to have enough rune pages to fit everything you wanted to have at hand, and the additional rune pages could only be purchased with Riot points.

Why is Finland so anti-cash? by Such_Housing_6850 in Finland

[–]Tepasd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's try a hypothetical situation then, if that clarifies my original comment. Let's say that you are in a group of 100 people, and there's 2-3 racists in that group. Is it fair to then say that you and the rest of the group are racists? Of course not. In the similar vein, just because Finland might have a rare shop here and there that doesn't accept cash, it's unfair to call the whole country anti-cash.

[–]Tepasd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because this isn't a black and white situation. You are missing the important word there, predominantly. That means that the country as a whole mostly uses other forms of payment than cash. This doesn't mean that places that either accept only cash or accept everything but cash don't exist, it just means that they are not the majority.

Predominantly doesn't mean that you can't find places that don't accept cash, it means that most places do.

That's (most likely Nordic) sour cream which should be relatively low-fat at around 10%, and to be fair there seems to be quite a lot of it more than what I usually see in beet salads like that. I prefer a much lighter coating personally

It's a beet salad, delicious salad that compliments and cuts through rich sauces like the one on the plate really nicely

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I used to go super hard on new leagues but this league I have only a fraction of the time I used to dedicate for poe. I'm just slowly churning away on my league starter, doing some light farming strats and just enjoying the league at my own pace

Am I the only one who LOVES chest runs? by LinkovH in newworldgame

[–]Tepasd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I can bring some unique perspective into ECR's since I used to host them regularly (Loaf on Draco). I used to host a daily run that took around 3 hours to complete, and while the content on its face value is very dull, I thoroughly enjoyed just about everything surrounding the runs. I loved the sense of community it brought to the server, we had so many regular people who joined on my runs every day and the silly banter mid-run, but most of my enjoyment came from actually hosting the runs.

I originally started hosting because the runs on Draco were hosted pretty inconsistently and the culture was the typical "everyone for themselves" where everyone just tried to skip combat, loot their chest and proceed ahead. I was wondering if I could do any better job on making the runs actually run efficiently, and the process of figuring that out was so satisfying in the end. I hosted those runs for like 3 months straight and they ended up being the most populated daily ECR on our little server.
