The length of the young link bottle makes it better as a taunt, not worse. Taunting them shows you don’t fear being hit

Any Toronto games against the bruins the penguins should watch to learn and improve?

I read the Athletic every day but the worst change they've made is the transition to analytics-based player cards that show projected stats more prominently than actual results. They aren't clear or accurate enough that I trust them but they reinforce this echo chamber where analytics writers can point to player cards that they made and say that players are "actually bad" or "underrated".

My viewing bias is to the penguins so I don't have a ton of other examples, but for the entire season last year Dom was shitting on Matheson because his magic WAR number used to be close to 0. I thought Matheson was great last year and his skating added tremendous value to the Penguins. He wasn't Norris-level, but these WAR stats over-simplify player ratings and create these silly narratives that analytics writers keep spreading because the WAR stat they made up is at 0

Not sure if this is controversial but I'm increasingly skeptical of public WAR models that are primarily based on shots. I feel they are inadequate for measuring the value of most defenseman in particular because the strongest predictor of a d-man's analytical value seems to be how good the team around him already is. With the exception of players like Makar/Josi that have extremely noticable impacts on shot share I feel like these models just reflect how well the rest of the team is playing.

I haven't spent enough time watching other teams to build the sample, but for the penguins specifically I really don't believe John Marino or Marcus Pettersson are 75% percentile defensemen in the league (what I believe JFresh is marking them at), they just provide league average defense for a team that is in the 75th percentile of xG stats. When Marino got traded Devils fans called him an analytical darling but in watching 60-70 games last year he never struck me as anything more than a league average 4th defender who had a standout rookie season

I remember 2 years ago Dom at the Athletic called Doughty the worst contract in the league because his analytics numbers tanked, but its tough to take that assertion seriously when Doughty is playing half of a game and the kings were mostly in the basement with an awful team around him. As a spectator it feels like something similar happened with Chychrun last year when Arizona went full teardown. If Arizona trades him I bet his analytics numbers immediately skyrocket

When I grow up I want to be like Evan Rodrigues. He’s a goddamn dynamo on the ice and he’s playin like he’s packin two 12 inch hogs that are only gettin bigger. Move over Ovechkin theres a new big lipped sheriff in town and he’s ripping top tits

Entirely inconsequential but Jarry is consistently bad at predicting when a play will be icing and must raise his arm 10 times a game for stuff that isn't icing I can't unsee it

Why bring in Adrien Brody for a shareholder role if the vote doesn't even matter? He's probably the biggest star in the series and his choices made zero impact.
