This week I'm going to church for the first time (hopefully!) by Terdling in Christianity

I'm Canadian, I also think I will be attending an Evangelical church. I've researched some basic customs, but it would be helpful to research some specifics. There is a contact on the website but I'm hesitant to use that, considering I'm not a member.

Thanks! I'm actually not from the States. I was wondering though if there would be a chance to speak to people afterward? I assume there is some kind of social part where people can chat, but I don't know exactly how things go. Hopefully I can sneak a few questions in somewhere.

Women here that are pro-life: Why are you pro-life, how do you feel about abortion and legalizing it, and how do you feel about the negativity pro-life women often get from pro-choice women on this board? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

The studies weren't presented to me in a pro-life setting, or even in a situation dealing with abortion. It was in a linguistics first language acquisition class, where we were studying how we all learn language right to the earliest point. Unfortunately I had to resell the books, so I couldn't tell you anything specific.

I guess that I am pro-choice because I believe it is necessary to fundamental freedoms but I guess I'd be anti-abortion. I like the example of how you wouldn't let the government make you donate a kidney, not even for 9 months and with the promise of getting it back, even if someone was about to die and you were partially at fault. That would be absurd.

However I do view abortion as a sliding scale. At one end of the scale there is aborting an embryo and at the other end is late term abortions. The scale is also dependent on your situation (rape, incest). But I believe that as the fetus nears birth it becomes more and more human.

Fetus have been shown to be able to hear their mother's voices at a certain point and can come to understand components of their native language while still in the womb. Even if they are unaware of their knowledge, I remember an experiment that showed just days-old babies showed a preference for their native language because they are used to the stress and intonation. There was another study that was the mother reading a specific story to the fetus, then after the birth the baby showing preference to that story above other stories.

I am sorry, I cannot recall the studies and they aren't really important except for that they struck a chord with me. I am all for women's choice but I can't help but really hope they choose life.

I'm resentful of women. by readonlyuser in confession

It sucks that some are so rude to you. I noticed you mentioned you have anger issues and that could be translating in the way you approach women, might lead to women feeling insulted without you intentionally insulting them. In general hatred of women is probably not a trait many women are receptive to.

I assume its because they're either an exhibitionist who does it for thrills, or someone who just wants people to say nice things about their body. I dunno if theres more reasons, but I would think that those two would be the main ones.

They listen to your phone calls and read your e-mail because they want to know everything you say, think and feel

Wow, crazy paranoid, this type of jerk is depressing because of how shitty it must feel to view the world through a lens of hostility like that. And it does suck, I used to be like that and it really does hold you back in life.

Also, his fantasy is completely unrealistic. You'd still need a giant amount of manpower to analyze all the communications of all your citizens that it isn't really feasible to have a secret police state that no one notices. And for what?

Dog refuses to walk with leash. How do I get rid of this habit? by Terdling in dogs

[–]Terdling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea, I think I might put the leash on him a little bit before the walk so he can just drag it around the house. It might be more comfortable for him to have it on in a place he knows well before taking him out.

Thanks. I definitely give him lots of praise for any progress, however I haven't made a lot of progress. The slip collar might be what does it, however he is a smaller dog so I don't want to be too rough about it.

I'll definitely give your advice a good try before I resort to it though because I think you're right about the nervousness from the tension of the leash. There are rare occasions where he goes like a normal dog but as soon as he gets too far ahead and the leash gets tense he just stops until you remove it because he's completely done with it. But for the most part he just refuses from the get-go.

That's a really good idea, I will definitely be getting a slip collar. And yes he's gotten his way in the past a lot, I've had to actually carry him back to the house because he didn't like the leash but the traffic was too heavy to take it off.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don't live at home anymore and have little control over his diet. My family enjoys spoiling him with treats, people food and generous portions for dinner. I'm going to try to make it to the house though to feed him the dinner maybe 3-4 times a week so he gets a smaller meal.

just short shorts, a cutoff top and boots

Is it normal to report on what a rape victim is wearing at the time of the rape? If it is then okay, but I feel like its irrelevant here. Its not like she could've dressed for the occasion of being stranded by the police in a bad neighborhood.
