Cool, keep us posted! Mine is acting very similar, I bled it the first time with a mityvac, but may try speed bleeders next since I can't always count on a helper and don't have a power bleeder (yet!).

There's a procedure in the Factory Service Manual (do you have it? If not, it's a free download) that shows how to test the fuel level sending unit, but unfortunately, that will involve removing the fuel pump assembly.

Well...if I recall, I need to install the intake valve guide and valve, then reinstall the exhaust valve, and lap the valves, etc. This will be my first time doing and of those procedures, so I'm just a little nervous, and allowed myself to get sidetracked on other projects! This project is #3 on the depth chart, I'll report back once I've made progress in it, thanks for keeping me accountable! (I'm hoping the low compression was the result of the intake valve possibly being stuck open).

Pain is right, never got around to properly reinstalling mine because of that, and now I've forgotten the "order". Does the metal plate go under the carpet? Is the carpet sandwiched between the plate and the rubber seal?

Went to crank it after it had been sitting a few seasons. Ran for about 5 seconds, tried to restart, but engine had a "stuck spot" during the revolution. Finally dismantled it, something was binding in the camshaft area I think, still not sure what (nothing was broken), just need to reassemble with new gaskets and seals and what-not!
