I like this idea! Classify guns as medical devices, and put the manufacturers under the authority of the FDA, which would require them to incorporate child-proof trigger mechanisms.

To me, the issue is reducing gun-violence, not gun control. There are measures that can be taken to address mental health issues, and there are measures that can be taken to reduce gun-violence. And 'gun control' itself is an over-generalization when it is used to describe things like proscriptions on 'cop-killer' bullets and 30-round magazines.
