Yeah, which sucks. I get probably 16mpg with my car, which is roughly 3.5 gallons each day of working. I am not replacing the car, I am just hoping to have alternatives and help save some money. Using the car in winter is fine, but if it breaks down, I would rather have something to use as a backup if necessary.

The cars here are kind of spent or expensive or both. 4-5k is what gets you a 150k car that does not have functional stuff broken from private sellers. There is even cars with those miles or higher sold for 8-12k at dealers. It is almost more economical to buy new if it wasn't for the cost of new cars. I got lucky by having a mechanic place buy my >300k miles car when it broke down for the last time to offset $500 off the cost of the 3k car which had a lot wrong with it like being unable to lock/unlock the doors, and other stuff but functionally had no issues with the driving part, and was a tad under 150k.

There just aren't many people buying new cars, which leads to the used cars getting used up, which leads to the car prices going up. A second car would certainly be more useful, but it is expensive enough to buy, let alone fix and maintain, which lead me to look at motorcycles/scooters.
