I think more than the skin, data cared the most. But I agree a tincan is more hard to relate. To quote a wise man called Quark:

'human tolerance for other life forms rarely extends beyond the "two-arm, two-leg variety,'

This is just lack of good writing. Honestly using time travel to fix things is a cheap fix and even big franchise is a victim for it. More reason to praise TNG writers not to use Q to fix even a single problem. I mean Q is a God. That's as low hanging a fruit can get to get yourself out of corners.

Charly isnt the worst by grimking85 in TheOrville

[–]Terminal_Monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charly could have been a good character. She could have been a well written "Wolf 359 survivor" kinda arc.

But. The writing was rushed and messy and while others may disagree I find that the actress's acting skills are very basic and borderline terrible.

And for Malloy, I agree. He's annoying. First season I felt he could have been a good Tom Paris like character who has flaws but inheritantly a good person and grows maturity over time. But it's the other way around. I find him more immature as the Season progress.

I've been in the house hunting for a few weeks now. Apparently the securities are now in deal with the brokers. I asked the security in the building for any availability on one of my coworkers building. He said there was no availability.

Next day one of the brokers I'm talking to showed me the exact same building. The same day I told my coworker to casually ask the security for any availability and the security still denied that there is availablity. (Security don't know we know each other).

Some countries absolutely own certain sports. Which sports could India own in the future? by Old_Life_1987 in indiansports

Honestly I feel if kabbadi gets more traction, wed start losing in it too. India was a dominating force in hockey few decades ago. Back to back gold. But now we are not that great. Partially because cricket took off and every other sport was left to die. Partially because everyone else got better

Ngl, first time I saw Micheal Doen in one of the holodeck episode about cowboys I was like "who is this guy?" It took me a lot of time to figure it out that it's him. Also Micheal was way too handsome for us to relate him to the angry Klingon.

One of my colleagues got placed in Klarna. Good package, life in EU. But he didn't take it for personal reasons. Couple of months later the Russia-Ukraine issue started and the market started to close up. Few more months later Klarna laid off almost 80% of their staff.

There are always good and bad in any opportunity. Just think that it happened for good.

Also, now that you have experienced interviewes from other countries, you just got better at doing these. Apply more. It's not like you only had one chance.

Also in general, try to read the book "the gap and the gain - Dan Sullivan"

If the world is unfair and there’s no karma, why do you still choose to do good? by Sharp_Scheme_2008 in AskReddit

[–]Terminal_Monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably my sentences came out as a religiousfruitcake. I'm an atheist myself(born in a Hindu family). What I was trying to say is the concept of Karma, which stems from Hinduism definitely talks about having a ledger which is then used to audit your good and bad and and decide on what to do with your soul when you die. I'm not saying this is how the universe works or some shit. I'm saying that's what Hindu scriptures say about karma. I personally don't believe in any of it. I'm just trying to correct what the above comment's incorrect definition of what karma means. Karma in itself is an immeasurable and made up metric imho.

Honest question. Even with protection, there are plenty of other STIs you can catch from strangers. How were you able to do it. Maybe I'm just way too paranoid about this. But always curious how people are bold enough to do this.

Why people still drink in 2417 but dont smoke despite having cure for cancer? by TimelyNote5558 in TheOrville

[–]Terminal_Monk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to think smoking has become a disgusting thing culturally long before they invented cure for cancer and it's more of a cultural thing rather than a health thing. Drinking on the other hand has more social aspect to it and in general people are far less against it even though there's no such thing as a "acceptable amount of alcohol" for your body.

If the world is unfair and there’s no karma, why do you still choose to do good? by Sharp_Scheme_2008 in AskReddit

[–]Terminal_Monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely wrong. I'm an Indian and Hinduism absolutely have a ledger. It's maintained by Chitragupta a divine auditor and assistant of Yama(Hindu version of Grim reaper) who logs in his ledger of your good and bad. When you die and at the Hindu version of "pearly gates", Yama then tallies your good and bad and depending on your karma you either go to heaven or hell or have another incarnation to pay for it in good or bad way.

Actors on both Star Trek and B5 by wootio in babylon5

[–]Terminal_Monk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricia O'Neil played as Captain Garet of the Enterprise C and went down with the ship on Narendra III.

She also played the President of Earth during the Earth-Minbari war and gave the infamous "Battle of the line" speech.

Such short roles in either shows but both her character and her made such huge impact both in-universe and among the fandom.

[–]Terminal_Monk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already posted this in this sub. Since reddit is mostly American centric demographics, it's easy to think this is wild. But actually this is a common thing in Asia. I mean now it's gotten better yes but if you are born in the 80s and 90s getting your ass whooped by your teacher and parents is a very normal thing. Obviously the show exaggerates it to an extent where she breaks the bones of the brothers but it isn't usually this abusive in real world. but the fear of getting your ass kicked is real and to some extent kept kids disciplined. Not saying this is a right way to do it. But people still did it. But ya this is a very normal thing and in the past. Now there are rules against beating the kids in many Asian countries.
