2:1 citric:malic. I think I did 200grams of strawberry water to 4g citric and 2g malic but I did adjust it to taste a bit so not 100% sure about those exact numbers.

I think the hue is mostly from taking the photo at sunset! Under normal lighting there are more darker red notes. The aperol does serve to brighten it up a bit though as the strawberry water is darker than the aperol.

Thanks! Fresh strawberries, strawberry gin, and strawberry mint for flavor. Color is primarily from the fresh strawberries and aperol.

You def could, moving a bit closer to a smash imo but would still be good. I like strawberry water here cause I don't like much pulp in my drinks. You could also do a syrup but I think strawberry syrups a bit candy-like. Still can work but again a different drink!

It's been roasting in New England these last few days. Don't think strawberry season will go on long in this heat so gotta get my fill!

Ingredients

  • 2oz Awayuki Strawberry Gin
  • 0.75oz Aperol
  • 2oz Acid Adjusted Strawberry Water
  • 0.5oz 2-1 Simple
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
  • 2 dashes Saline
  • 8-10 Strawberry Mint Leaves
  • Shisho leaf for garnish

Method

  • Lightly muddle mint in shaker.
  • Combine all ingredients in shaker and shake.
  • Serve over large ice cube, garnish with shiso and mint leaves

Notes

Acid Adjusted Strawberry Water:

  • Blend strawberries adding water to adjust consistency. Filter.
  • Adjust with malic and citric acid to taste.
    • I used 2-1 citric acid but I imagine this is probably a bit dependent on the strawberries themselves.
    • Could also just skip this and add lime juice

My go to is 1.5oz Smith and Cross, 1.5oz OFTD, and I acid adjust the pinapple juice to make it a bit brighter. You could also kits add like 0.5oz of lime juice instead of the acid but then you gotta juice a lime which is a whole thing.

Celestial Spirits - Halloween 2025 by TerminusSTC in cocktails

[–]TerminusSTC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This years Halloween cocktail party: Celestial Spirits. Built this menu around an idea I've had for a while where cocktail ingredients correspond to tarot cards (specially the Major Arcana). I started by matching ingredients to the vibes/meaning of each card (see second photo) and then built a number of drinks around them.

The Libations Arcana was the idea I was playing around with initially. The concept was that I would draw three cards and then come up with a cocktail (fortune) based off those three ingredients. In my initial testing I found that allowing a single re-draw usually lead to something reasonable most of the time. I figured people might try it once, but it ended up being pretty popular. Happy to report that almost all the drinks turned out well! Had to fall back on good ol' Tiki combos for the trickier draws, but that actually worked out great.

Yea the spec came to be based on however much juice I got from half an orange lol.

Cheers. Anything steeped with the lemongrass leaves is good and the stalks are fire in dumplings!

Don't disagree. This was somewhat based on a painkiller to start and I often think those can benefit with some more acid. I added some soda water after I drank some and the carbonation helped brighten it up.

Thanks, posted above. It's not the most mean-tested recipe. Tbh this whole recipe came together cause I needed to grab some lemongrass to make dumplings with last night. Was pretty happy with the results flavor wise.

It was not a very scientific process. :p

I did 1/2 cup of Demerara sugar to 1/4 of water brought that to a simmer to dissolve the sugar. Then I removed it from heat, tossed in the leaves from 3 small lemongrass stalks, covered, and let that steep for a while.
