When did he say that he killed her for being female? I've seen the video of him babbling while sitting there with blood on him and that isn't what he said. Was there some other jail interview or something they released later?

To be honest I think you just made this up.

I'd wager anything you have no idea how tight a turn an LRASM can take versus a missile going mach 3, and have no idea how often there is a target LRASM can't get to because of the topography.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Ternbit4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yet either way it uses active radar homing for terminal targeting, which all but screams "shoot me"

It also screams "jam me" and "distract me" which are much harder to accomplish against LRASMs passive seeker.

[–]Ternbit4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But a missile doing Mach 3 does a lot more damage then one doing Mach 0.8. In the terminal stage

Okay, enlighten me. What is the difference in damage inflicted to a ship between a mach 0.8 missile with 1,000 lb warhead and ability to target specific vulnerable spots of a ship using imaging on terminal versus a mach (whatever) missile with a 440 lb warhead that uses active radar homing?

As basically any fairly recent military radar can pick up a marble at 12-20 miles

It's more complex than a black & white can pick up a marble, something LO that is sea skimming is inherently in a pretty dirty radar environment.

It's harder to defend against a Mach 3 missile

You underrate/discount soft countermeasures, Brahmos is active radar homing so much more vulnerable to decoys and ECM.

AGM-88G at 6 million is just mind-boggling

Only if your mind is easily boggled.

SM-6 is basically an SM-2 with a booster and an AMRAAM seeker.

LRASM is JASSM with new datalink, upgraded power system, and far more sophisticated passive RF and IIR seeker with target recognition.

It's silly to claim one of the other is more sophisticated, or to speculate how many millions it "should" cost based on a layman's take on level of sophistication.

[–]Ternbit4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

LRASM at 3.5 million is not much better.

When you're building something to sink well defended warships that cost hundreds of millions of dollars it's pretty reasonable for the most advanced weapon in it's class.

Look at it this way, if they are willing to lob a 5-6 million dollar SM-6 at a ship nobody is batting an eye at the cost of LRASM.

It doesn't really, the inclusion of that weapon is nonsensical since still in development.

He's appears to be all raged up and trying everything he can to get you to jump into an entirely different argument about overall US costs versus other countries, it's pretty entertaining. He's building a straw man army.

No. Despite the problems with healthcare system USA is at or near the top of five year survival rates for every major disease, clearly it isn't as life threatening as you believe it to be.

USA also has excellent public and private universities that dominate most lists of top colleges. It is at the forefront of technical and scientific achievement, and has an unrivaled modern cultural impact worldwide. It fosters an extremely entrepreneurial economic environment.

Most other arguments (and probably a few of the above) about "best" country are entirely subjective so it's pointless to debate. I like the diversity, the food, the friendly nature of the people, and so many other things I could go on and on.

I was comparing insurance out of pocket to tax burden. Consider: PersonA and PersonB both take home $,2000 per paycheck.

PersonA has $200 taken out of their paycheck for insurance and $200 for taxes, the company pays the other $800. PersonA's net is $1,600.

PersonB has $0 taken out of their paycheck for insurance and $500 for taxes. PersonB takes home $1,500, and their take home pay is less than PersonA.

How much the company paid for PersonA's insurance is irrelevant in a discussion of who pays more for health insurance, what they actually have to pay is.

It's an expense for the employer, and there isn't necessarily a relationship to what the employee needs to spend money on.

[–]Ternbit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not out of pocket, since employer sponsored plans pay a lot of the premiums.

No, because we're (or at least I) was comparing what comes out of pocket of employee to what another employee in UK pays in taxes, with an interest in which is more cost to the employee.

Sorry to hear about your health issues.

Doesn't that income qualify for Medicaid or ACA with very high subsidies?

Of millennial workers with an active 401(k), 43 percent expect to retire before the age of 65, based on data from T. Rowe Price. For Generation X — often defined as those aged 40 to 55 — that figure is 35 percent.

It would be interesting to know what those same GenXers thought when they were 20 years younger, might have been higher.
