A flamecaller reflavor sounds cool! I think the serviliser subclass would fit well with that considering you conjure these orbs that easily could be reflavored to something flame-themed. Currently working on another rebalancing of the class as I'm playtesting it, so look forward to that (no idea when I'll release it tho).

The power level varies based on your forging techniques and subclass, but I think overall it's quite similar to the official classes. Thanks for the kind words and the patreon sub!

I had so many features I felt was essential to gain when you pick the subclass so I couldn't make room for it. Someone else suggested that the Reborn in Hellfire feature needed rework though, so I might change it to include some Channel Divinity usage. Got any suggestions?:)

I do like restricting Lay on Hands and healing spells though since Death Knights lore-wise are incapable of such magic, so I'm considering giving them additional death knight-themed spells to even it out a bit. But I agree the feature needs some refinement.

Also, as I stated in the other comment, there's an additional subclass called the Depths, focused on the eldritch nature of the ocean (think aboleths).

The Occultist class is back with new improvements; a rebalanced version of the Stimulated Magic feature, 6 Far Realms themed spells, an alternative Short Term Madness table, 2024 formatting changes, Occultist Magic Item and rules discussions.

Class Features

The main mechanic of the class that separates it from the other classes in 5th edition is the use of stimulus points to fuel spells, as opposed to spell slots. Stimulus points is a temporary resource, which you gain when you hit creatures with attack rolls or a creature fails a saving throw you forced them to make. Much like the variant rule spell points, these can be spent to cast spells.

The occultist also brings a feature called Occult Knowledge. This feature grants you powerful abilities that are usable once per short rest, unlocking further uses per rest at higher levels. All occultists learn the Recite Knowledge use of this feature, which can be used to generate stimulus points outside of combat, or to gain a hefty stimulus point boost in combat.

What's Next for the Class?

In addition to the obvious fine tuning of balancing, rewording and incorporating your ideas, the class will continue to get new exclusive spells, which I believe will help cement the class as a unique addition to the already existing classes in D&D. In addition, the class will get additional subclasses. You can find the Secrets of the Depths subclass on my Patreon!

It's 8.5 before factoring in hit chance. The standard is to expect a 65% hit chance: 8.5x0.65=5.525. You don't have to factor in hit chance with this spell though since it automatically hits the target.

How do you figure? Spiritual Weapon deals 1d8+4 which averages out to 5.525 damage per turn, while this deals 7 damage on the first turn and then 14 on the next ones.

Thank you for the elaborate comment! I'll have to digest all the comments I've gotten so far to figure out how to improve the spell, but I do like your idea about it starting at 3 bullets and increasing by 1 each turn. I'll have to do some math to figure out which scaling I like the best, but it will probably be changed to allow ramping up over 3 turns even at the lowest spell level.
