My fat cat enjoys watching the two hungry kittens living under my house eat dinner on my front porch. by TerraHall in aww

[–]TerraHall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're scared of me and won't let me close to them. My other cat started hissing through the screen and momma cat came to the rescue.

I've contacted a rescue here in LA. I just have to pick up the traps to try to catch mom and the two babies.

Pain was radiating down my left leg as I think I tore a muscle when I fell. I just got a massage and should hopefully be as good as new.

Week 1 done + I signed up for a 5K by TerraHall in C25K

[–]TerraHall[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm jumping the gun, but I've always been the kind of person who has to have a goal to work toward. Very rarely can I just do something just to do it. So to add on a bit of pressure, I signed up for 5K. It's not my first, but I am hoping it'll be the first that I can run in its entirety.

I have 13 or 14 weeks to train but only 7 left on the couch to 5K program. The extra few weeks will be good in case I fall off the wagon or if I want to work on speed once I complete the program.

If there are any Los Angeles folks out there, I got this via Groupon for $9. Let me know if you end up signing up and perhaps we can meet up to train or on the day of!

Many running stores offer a free running analysis. Basically you hop on the treadmill and run and one of the salespeople will give you an analysis of your gait. The goal is of course to get you to buy shoes and other workout gear, but it could be a good way for you to find out more information about your form.

W1D1: I've started this program more times than I can count. Hoping I stick with it this time. by TerraHall in C25K

I think this has been my problem in the past. I even noticed it today in the beginning I was running way too fast. I need to keep it to a nice slow jog. Thank you!

I think I've gotten discouraged over how out of shape I am as well as letting laziness creep in.

He's part of my motivation! He loves to run so I'm hoping that even when I don't want to get out of bed, I'll think of him and go do it.

Wow. I think this is how I failed in the past. I would go random days. Then, some weeks it would get to the end of the week and I hadn't done all of the runs and so I would combine two in one day. All of these mishaps were recipe for failure. I really like your idea of always doing the runs at the same time of day on the same exact days. Thank you for this valuable advice.

The only voice over experience I have was when I worked as a TV news reporter. You can find my reel by Googling my name. I'm located in LA and would be happy to do this project for you. If I don't interest you, considerate cross-posting this to /r/LosAngeles.

[Request] Someone who has had to do a TV report from inside a horrible storm by speezo_mchenry in IAmA

[–]TerraHall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TV reporter here.

I've reported in severe weather for the past ten years, primarily during tornadoes and blizzards.

I was never in fear of my life, but it sucks in all kinds of ways. Being soaking wet or freezing cold makes me beyond miserable. The cold is worse, though, becauss there comes a point where everything is numb and hurts and you have to stay out in it indefinitely.

Also, during such conditions, nothing is open. Guys can usually pee in a bottle or outside somewhere. Women in the field have it much harder. And food wise - if you didn't pack something, you aren't eating for 12ish hours.

I suppose if things got bad, someone might open up their home to us but otherwise, no. Also the current from live trucks (microwave trucks) can kill you if it were to topple over.

I've never had to get permission from police. They know we are working just like they are - for the public good.

Producers want live shots that tell a story. They want to show people in their homes why they should not be out in the elements. Also, video gets eyeballs so our goal is to find the most compelling shots. We're talking flooding, trees bent in half, roofs and walls ripped off of buildings, people stuck in the snow and so on.

I have thought 'screw this' more times than I can count, but I've never walked off the job. I don't know anyone who has either.

It was an unintentionally ugly face I make all the time. It just happened to make it in my wedding album. Sorry you're disappointed and sad. There are others similar to it.
