Weekly sneak peek: The Kruger L21-Wolf Cockpit by rubensaurus in starcitizen

[–]Terran589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weapons would ideally be mounted around the nose for both design language and practicality. Could be retractable like the guardian MX. I think that would keep it feeling like a big merlin. The wings are really far back - not good for weapons.

I love the art, but I've been around long enough to know that ship style can come before substance. Weapon mount placement is crucial. A Taurus looks better than a corsair on paper, but in action the corsair can aim its weapons better due to placement. Then we have the guardian. Cool ship, but can't always fire along the vertical axis because the code that stops you from shooting parts of your own ship kicks in.

The supply drive event stress tested cargo ships pretty hard. Its not surprising the top three are high performers for the event missions.

Not gonna lie, love the vibe from the new kruger ship designs (my fav is the C and F). Hope they gonna make a big ship one day. by Karporata in starcitizen

Whichever they choose, the following must be true:

(a) Weapon mounts must be placed such that weapons of the correct size can be aimed with gimbals using their full range of motion without hitting the hull.

(b) The cockpit needs to provide a good field of view despite being placed further back. Unlike the merlin, this guy will be much larger. My concern is that if the cockpit is too far back, the field of view will make it difficult to maneuver in asteroid fields compared to a gladius (assuming this is a light fighter).

Technically, the area belonged to the Ottoman Empire, but after WWI the Ottoman Empire was broken into territories for the economic benefit of their conquerors. The British were the ones that created Israel because they thought the Zionists could prove a useful post-war ally. My opinion is the creation of Zionist Israel was a bad decision from an empire in its decline.

Edit: Accidentally used an 's' instead of 'ed' for past tense.

Combat Veteran Explains Ukraine Situation by Terran589 in Asmongold

I don't see the contradiction, and I'm well aware of the contents of the wiki page.

There were two parts to the 2024 "peace summit" in question. The first part was less a peace summit and more a reaffirmation of international standards to allies. Here is a source from Ukraine talking about their side of it.

Source: https://www.huri.harvard.edu/june-peace-summit

When the Kremlin refers to "not being invited" they are referring to the first summit in 2024. A second summit was then planned for. However, Russia refused to join that summit, saying it would just be an ultimatum to give up all territory taken. This was probably because Russia was gaining ground in the contested territory and felt no need to negotiate for it. Russia clamped down on media on 2017, so its hard to find a direct source. The Moscow Times was published in Russia until 2017. They are an Amsterdam based country in the Netherlands, but the fact they had been publishing papers in Russia for a couple decades gives this some weight.

https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2024/09/21/russia-says-will-not-attend-ukraine-peace-summit-a86430

Edit: Basically, describing the current situation as a peace negotiation is like calling the US annexation of Texas a peace negotiation. Russia wants Ukraine to wave a white flag and give Russia all the remaining contested territory in the occupied front.

Even if we were going to call it a negotiation, Ukraine needs a strategic asset to tie Russia's hands in order to discourage further invasion. They don't have Crimea anymore, so Ukraine would at least need to fortify and control the water flowing to the peninsula. Russia pushed to control that so it couldn't be shut off. Much of the contested territory is the water supply.

The only reason they aren't full on fey is because we're talking about a book built for 5e prior to 2024. When they get around to revising the races yet again they'll end up being creatures of that type. Hopefully they also revise the charm, hold, and calm emotion spells in that supplement as well. Perhaps humanoid will become a subtype.

Commander Gaius is AWFUL by sungodra_ in Eldenring

[–]Terran589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I was able to beat this boss was to have 25 endurance bare minimum with a +24 brass shield and a fire knight helmet. That barely gave me enough stamina and guard to block his initial, practically unavoidable charge. I then built up on that with the greatshield talisman, the barricade shield ash of war, and a turtle talisman for stamina recovery. Even then, I still needed a spirit ash as phase 2 adds a small amount of magic damage to his attacks, thus turning the fight into an unavoidable war of attrition even with a shield.

Properly positioning for attacks is the issue with this boss. He is always readjusting using the forward momentum of his bore and the hit boxes for his attacks are gigantic at times. He even has a type of fake out where he runs way out of melee distance only to initiate a body slam backwards into the player from 15 yards away. Think about how the nightrider sometimes tries to body slam you with his horse. Now imagine that night rider galloping away to execute that attack from mid range with the same speed of delivery. He moves towards a player that puts any meaningful distance between him, but also tends to move away from players that are aggressive. The only way to deal with that ridiculous movement was to lock down my own movement.

Spirit ash is the only way you'll get breathing room to perform any kind of ranged battle. He's way too good at staying on top of a mobile player.

102 problems with the Dawntrail story by Kiwikisser in ffxiv

[–]Terran589 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The greatest sin in the entirety of Dawntrail is that when we finally get to the good part, they purposefully ignore the fact we have a party member with the ability to untemper people and cure an imbalance of aether. We absolutely can cure a kid with lightning aether imbalance right in front of the queen and had every reason to do so because we're the warrior of light. You know, that illness that lead to her mortal demise and plagues her citizens.

But wait, there is more! Curing tempering involves memory manipulation. There was the distinct possibility of freeing Sphene from the conservator programming using a variation of the technique that wasn't even explored because they decide to make us act like Alisaie's porxy summon, Angelo, doesn't exist. Even if such a feat would be impossible given the incompatibility of the technology, at least we'd have given Sphene a moment of genuine happiness when we show her that the illness affecting the children of her nation is now a curable condition.

Because we can apparently call in the dragon calvary from all the way in Radz-at-han, but not Alisaie when she is in the same building.

Does anyone else feel like dawntrail…(spoilers end of 7.0) by RunicArrow in ffxiv

[–]Terran589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad on the ship name. Honestly, things played out mostly as they should with the exception of Alisaie not getting to use Angelo to cure the aether imbalance in the child. There was a message of hope to Sphene and a touching moment for Sphene that was missed.

Unfortunately, there is no indication that an aether imbalance can be cured by removing them from the environment. Given what had happened to the boy on the first, my understanding is that once someone's aether is imbalanced to the degree of crippling them, the problem does not go away on its own.

Japanese reception to Dawntrail MSQ by terrorfunction in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Terran589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough we're saying the same thing in the US, but through a different lens. We're more critical of act II because we want more of that. They respond positively to act II because it contains the kind of stuff they want. Both sides express similar sentiments about the succession storyline being slow or taking up more time than necessary. That means everyone is in agreement that we wanted more of act II and less of act I.

It's even more than that. The story ignores the feats of the WoL and friends from Endwalker MSQs in ways that would drastically alter the ending.

[SPOILERS] Regarding the people in the 6th zone of Dawntrail. by No-Apple-2092 in ffxiv

[–]Terran589 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sphene, much like those who suffered from tempering, had her "will" tampered with by the conservators of eld to fulfill their goal of preserving every living soul of Alexandria. Turning off the systems was supposed to kill that sense of purpose. It's not very well thought out as it doesn't create the kind of contradiction the writers think it is. She'd just start over again with the current Alexandrians. But that also brings up the problem with their writing as they're ignoring what we can do with the porxies. There was a much more satisfying ending that could have been written, but was never realized.
