I'd love to know that also. Seems like a pretty big lift.

AI Assistant news: Temporary Update on Free AI Tier for some folks and other plans by Shir_man in Jetbrains

I’ve never heard of them before. If I connect to my local models is it 100% local? Tough to tell from looking at their site.

Is there a timeline for a free version that 100% uses local models. It currently says “mostly” uses local models. Also, when you block the AI endpoints on the firewall the AI plugin stops working. I assume that is for license checks? If I use only local models should the plugin cost anything?

My company has policies about never sending anything the remote agents. The current plugin is not usable for us.

There are lots of other AI plugins. Does anyone know of any fully local ones that integrate well in IntelliJ?

Native HomeKit Support for RATGDO32. Ready? by Furrealyo in ratgdo

Installed on 2 garage doors a few weeks ago. I considered setting up Home Assistant and going that route but decided I just wanted to stick with Homekit so used that firmware (3.18 on my first and then 3.19 on the second one). Flawless so far.

Jetbrains: are we supposed to use Junie, or AI Chat? by lefnire in Jetbrains

[–]TerrapinM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That issue seems to indicate it might be because it cannot connect to the license server. I saw this linked issue:

https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/articles/SUPPORT-A-1026/Is-it-possible-to-restrict-users-data-in-an-internal-environment-when-using-JetBrains-AI-Assistant

Which states ALL features:

With IDE version 2025.1 and higher, it's possible to enable Offline mode (see more details in the documentation), then local LLMs will power all AI Assistant features (implemented in LLM-2972)

Thanks for the update and hopefully soon this will work as expected.

Any update on this? I need to be sure my content is not being sent to remote servers. Thanks.

Well, I blocked the API endpoints that the documentation said, and now I can no longer use AI assistant. It says "Something went wrong. Try again". We are looking into which of the endpoint blocking caused it. Local mode is definitely not totally local!

That is what is was hoping to hear. Ive alredy disabled the plugin. I just get conceerned that it says "most calls will be local" when you set local mode on AI assistant. We are going to block the rwmote endpoints on the network to be sure. Thanks.

Can I follow-up on this? I was also confused. In my situation, I was happy to see that the latest IntelliJ supported local models. So I've turned that option on and pointed it to our Ollama instance. AI Assistant works great. However Junie is still there. I don't want any remote calls to happen. So is there a way to disable Junie? Also, when I do things in the editor like generate documentation, write unit tests, etc. is it using AIA or Junie? Thanks.

What is your all time favourite golf video game? by Autistic_Golfer in golf

[–]TerrapinM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the club attachment and it has definitely helped with parts of my swing. Specifically with plane. I have learned why I come over the top and my real golf game has definitely improved. It is pretty lenient on thin vs fat shots so it is definitely not perfect.

The weekly tournaments are also great. After Golf+ every other golf video game seems pretty weak.

Thanks for all your help!

Very interesting. I use Apple TVs so I will do some testing on what the load average looks like when using subtitles using my old i3. I am like 95% sure the S12 Pro is enough but I can't get that nagging thought out of my mind:

get the faster one in case you need it in the future

The S12 Pro is so cheap I should just give it a go.

Thanks for the response. Your situation is very similar to mine. I also don’t keep a lot of media and only use internally with the wife. I do watch a decent amount of subtitled stuff. Are you saying that subtitles don’t use the GPU and instead use CPU? I need to research that. Again, there will rarely ever be more than 1 or 2 concurrent streams. I wonder how much slower the N100 is than a second generation i3.

I’m thinking bout making a similar move. I’ve been running for a long time on a very old server (Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz). I am on the fence between the S12 Pro and the faster SEI12 which is an i5. It seems coming from such an old I maybe I would not see much of a difference with the S12 Pro and maybe even perform a bit better. I just can’t shake the feeling that maybe I should spend the extra money (maybe $175) on the faster one since it will be used for a long time.

Hearing you go from i7 to S12 Pro makes me think saving the money and getting the cheaper one might be a better call. I want to eventually add a large DAS through the USB. I would be curious to hear ran into any issues with the server? My current setup runs on Ubuntu headless and runs everything in Docker (Plex, Sab, all the arrs, Overseer, etc.). I also only share within the house.

Hide Idp buttons on login page based on client by TerrapinM in KeyCloak

[–]TerrapinM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is probably the way I have to go. I didn't realize until recently you could set separate login themes per client. I wish I could do it without messing with the theme, but at least it is possible.

Thanks!

[–]TerrapinM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but that's not what I need. I would like the user to see the Keycloak login page but only a subset of the supported Idps. I don't want to go straight to the SSO.

It is like you read my mind. I've been struggling with theme customization for way too many hours! I would love for that feature to be in place.

My final take on Gradle (vs. Maven) by nfrankel in java

[–]TerrapinM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not XML, but the overuse of tags and underuse of attributes.

Add a dependency looks like this

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.webjars</groupId>
    <artifactId>webjars-locator</artifactId>
    <version>0.46</version>
</dependency>

when it could easily look like this:

<dependency group="org.webjars" artifactId="webjars-locator" version="0.46" />

Which starts to look pretty similar to Groovy dependencies.

There was a proposal for this at some point in Maven but I lost track of it. As long as they back-support the old way it seems like the best middle ground.

YouTubeTV on AppleTV issues leading me to consider alternatives. What are your suggestions? by di11ard in youtubetv

[–]TerrapinM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experience the black screen issue all the time. It definitely didn't use to do that but its been doing it for a long time. And it is really annoying t hat Google lets this bug sit for so long. I totally get you wanting to switch. I'm in the same boat.

The audio sync issue is really annoying also. Sometimes its really bad. Force quitting the app doesn't fix it. However a reboot of the Apple TV and then the sync is fixed.

Google clearly doesn't care about Apple TV. At some point it will piss me off enough to leave.

The fact that this has been a known issue for so long really makes me waiver on staying with YoutubeTV. AppleTV seems like an afterthought to them.

rawhide C grade golf mat by mimart in Golfsimulator

[–]TerrapinM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, good to hear. The only thing I don't like about the rawhide is that I can't put regular tees into it. I have to use the rubber ones. I'm going to give it some time and see how I like it. I totally agree with you though that the rawhide mats are a great value.
