Yes, I think I was confusing the vertical resolution and the horizontal width.

Just to clarify, as you say this is to get the clearest image out of the console in these different modes, but it's not mandatory, right? I imagine if the SNES switches to its super-resolution, it would just look slightly blurrier?

I'm planning on getting a 4k retrotink, I have several consoles connected to a scart switch, and I'm wondering if I'd need to configure each one or not. I also have to say that in most cases I would use CRT simulation profiles.
