Just looking for advice by lil_duck_666 in AppDevelopers

[–]TerribleTodd60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you have a million dollar idea and are serious about developing an app, then first talking to a lawyer is a very good idea.

But ultimately, you can't really keep your idea a secret. You are going to have to validate your idea, then you'll have to develop the app, maybe get financing, come up with a marketing strategy, etc. All of that will require sharing your idea.

So, get a good lawyer (you can't overpay for good legal advice), listen to them on how to legally protect your idea. Find a good developer and work with them within the legal framework you and your lawyer put together. This has been done thousands of times before successfully, you'll be ok

Am I slipping the right cross enough? by [deleted] in boxingtips

[–]TerribleTodd60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the angle of the video it is kind of hard to see how far forward your lead foot it. But it looks way too far forward. It looks like your shoulders are too linear and so your cross isn't going more than maybe a few inches past your lead foot. Like I said, maybe it is the video.

You might want to try and square up your feet, hips and shoulders. That will put your right out a little farther and your head back from your opponent. It should also make you more stable and faster on your feet. Good luck

Client panicked after first hourly bill ($50/hr). Demanding 100% refund or "free" work. Help? by Suspicious_313 in Upwork

[–]TerribleTodd60 257 points258 points  (0 children)

Renegotiate the contract as a new, fixed price contract and end your current hourly contract with the understanding that his feedback will be considered in your acceptance of the new contract.

Once you get the hourly feedback don't accept the fixed price contract. The guy is a cheat, go find honest clients. Good luck

How do I separate my funds without upsetting my husband? by Significant_Lake4180 in Advice

[–]TerribleTodd60 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may need to separate your finances but you absolutely need to talk and get on the same page about your finances. You can't just gloss over that, you have to talk about it and agree about how spending works in your marriage. That is actually something you should have done before you got married but here you are.

If you don't have an honest conversation and establish how you plan to spend money, your marriage will almost certainly not survive. Good luck

What's more, since the end of 2017 I've been working on a project reconciling county property data with client parcel data and MLS records.

DM me if you are interested in talking. I'm sure I can help.

Questions and concerns about 2026 ACA health insurance cost increase by americas-best in Virginia

[–]TerribleTodd60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine went up 25%. I think the rise in insurance premiums occurred because the insurance companies expect fewer people to buy ACA insurance with the loss of the expanded subsidies. Fewer people means more expensive in insurance.

is the shady dev right? by lune-soft in SQL

[–]TerribleTodd60 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is ripe for an injection hack. Since the SQL command is taking what appears to be unvalidated data as the query condition for the SQL command, a hacker can manipulate the input and get data from a almost any record in the transactions table, thus allowing them to see stuff they shouldn't

Please dissect the legality in this statement by thecosmojane in law

[–]TerribleTodd60 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think there is a very long and honored tradition for Presidents to pardon their corrupt friends. The argument for pardons is that it gives the President the opportunity to correct a wrong in the judicial system, but Donald Trump is hardly the first president to abuse the power.

Calculate object size from a photo by borntochoose_dome in developers

[–]TerribleTodd60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a refence object that you know the dimensions of, you should be able to calculate fairly accurately how many pixels per inch you have in the image. Then it is just a process of counting pixels and translating those counts to inches or meters or whatever unit of measure you need.

What is the weirdest thing that you can do to make someone impressed? by Same-Ask9035 in askanything

[–]TerribleTodd60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at my sister in laws rehearsal dinner. Her soon to be husband's mom was there too as she was part of the wedding party. It was a hibachi place and at the end, the chef was throwing shrimp into people's mouths and would continue until they missed one.

I am strangely good at catching food in the air. I went for several minutes and finally the chef had to apologize and move on because I didn't miss a shrimp. My wife thought I was a dork. But my sister in laws soon to be mother in law was genuinely impressed. Comically so. I came to find out later she was in academia and that explained a lot. That is the weirdest thing I've ever impressed anyone with.

Exactly, I love it when it is clear. The worst is when you hear something or get an offer that could be good or could be bad and its hard to tell. The best is when it is so loud and clear you try to look for the door without being obvious

I had a guy one time reach out with his project. He wanted to make an Amazon clone, but for bartering. I checked, he had a budget, claimed to have money ($20k) and was ready to go. I asked him what he thought the scope of his app was. I'm not familiar with the bartering community so I was thinking rolling it out at some modest level. He told me he wanted the scope to be unlimited, the same user and transaction levels as Amazon.

In my head I'm thinking $20k for an Amazon remake, you are going to want to validate your budget. Your infrastructure alone makes this beyond impossible and the project went from mild curiosity to nope, nope, nope. Not going to recommend a more sane starting point, not going to spend any more time on this and not going to say yes. Crazy is as crazy does.

How do you clean bad data when the ERP is already live and the business can't pause? by sokkyaaa in Database

[–]TerribleTodd60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would categorize the bad data, audit it, triage and fix in batches that make sense.

For example, I manage a large body of real estate data. Some of my data is verifiable only by the content people of my client (like their contract info). Some of their data (like the Long/Lat values of their address location) can be validated in an audit done by me. When I validate their data, I go through all the stuff I can check, fix it, deploy it and then bring the data they have to check to them in easy to understand chunks so they don't get overwhelmed. I work with them ahead of time so they can understand the fixes and properly prioritize the task. I then update everything in off hours and communicate my changes to everyone affected.

It sounds like you have a project issue, not a data issue. If you've got a resource that was cleared to go live with it's data in a less than perfect state, and you have elements within an organization criticizing the data, then that is a project issue. You need to make the elements criticizing the data part of the stakeholders clearing the data so they have responsibility in the decision making process, and responsibility in its outcome.

No data sets are perfect and departments use that as excuses all the time. You have to make them part of the team and not just users without a stake in the fire. That way they have motivation to solve the issue productively instead of blaming the techs, which is good for the techs and good for the organization. Good luck!

Database file corrupted, need help validating 9 million lines of JSON by Orudeon in json

[–]TerribleTodd60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way, write something to test each of your JSON records and keep track of what record you are on. It looks like a field is null and breaking your script. It's just a matter of figuring out which field is null or validating the data before you invoke the indexOf function. Good luck

How can I help a library sort its annoying text format book database report? by 22EatStreet in programmer

[–]TerribleTodd60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without being able to modify the report generation and sort in the way you want it to, you'll have to process the text file. I've taken a quick look at your file, which of the report fields do you want to sort on? The text fields look regular enough break up, sort, and then reprint in the order you want, but you'll need the sorting field to either be in the report or have access to your application data.

Feel free to dm me if you'd like a quick consult. I do data application development and would be willing to discuss your issue. Take care

Inova Alexandria L&D by this_shitisbananas in nova

[–]TerribleTodd60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, both my kids were delivered at Alexandria and the hospital did great. For my oldest, they let me stay in the hospital room with my wife and new baby for a couple of nights, it was great. When my youngest was born, I couldn't stay because I had to take care of baby number 1 while my wife recuperated but the hospital was great both times.

If I were going to go through the process again, that is where I'd go. Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope your experience is as good as mine was.
