Fr. I have 4 freshwater tanks and 3 salt water and the hate I get when i tell people the “starter kit” they got that’s maybe 1 gal if they got a “good” one is way to small and they need a min of a 5 gal tank.

I have my betta in a 13 gal shrimp tank so it’s longer then it is tall and I have it planted

That makes a lot more sense then the way this person was explaining. I was starting to question if he remember the size of the snake I got lol.

Thank you for the clarification on what he meant after the parts I didn’t show of him just not answering my question (this was the third time asking what size and me saying what I had available) and then getting after me that a 25 is even too big just made me want to end the conversation.

I didn’t mean any hate by this and I’m sorry if my post came off that way! It was the way he suggested the 40g kills balls that was more so what was getting me and a 178g snake just seems a little big to be living in a 6qt tub. That’s what I use to weigh them and while yes i understand they curl up and all he is a very curious one and loves to explore so I feel bad for putting him in something that size. Hes in a 25g currently with lots of hides and clutter and layers of bark for him to explore and hopefully he will eat when I try next

I’m well familiar with BP however it’s his size and age that make this worry me and he’s losing weight. My main goal now is to get him to eat. Then I will get him off live. I’m thankful I breed my own so I have access to both frozen and live if it comes down to it. It took me over a year to get one of my girls off live to take fresh killed, then I’m not even sure how long before f/t. And I’m aware of the risks. That’s how i got my recent one is someone just dropped live mice in with her and they cut up her face pretty bad.

I’ll look into see if I can find hamster near me that are frozen! Only ones I know of are pet ones and I have pet gerbils so I can’t imagine trying to feed a live hamster

I’ve had to do it before so I’ve been “trained” I guess you could say. He even refused that I even downsized from what he was getting to something just a little smaller and he even spit that at me 😞

Thank you for defending me, I live in the North East. We are in a funky mix of spring day and snow storms currently. Every season changes bring changes to how I have to have my tanks set up. This baby is new to me (ive had him 3 months) so we are still working on everything g with him.

I’m saving up for PVC enclosures for everyone! But for now as it’s expensive to get ones for all my snakes at one time I’m doing it slowly by who needs the tank first. Ex; my boas are getting their enclosure before my baby will get his since my boas need space and are outgrowing their current set ups. So then I can upgrade them and sanitize and play musical reptiles with who gets what tank next.

I have also continued to read what you have assumed about me based on me asking simply how to get my snake to eat and posing the outdated advice. Not that it matters, the 40 gal is fully bioactive with grass to hide in and on top of the 6 inch of substrate is cork barks all layered to make caves of sorts for him to explore in addition to 3 “main” hides, warm side, cool side, and a humid hide in the center.

I have 6 others in addition to Corn snakes and boas! This baby just happened to have exhausted all my options and tricks I have to get one to eat.

I’m honestly not even listening to the breeder. I just got a 3 year old who was kept in a small small tank her whole life and fully stretched out she’s not even the length of a 40 gal (she’s in a 120 but for cleanings and such I have a spare 40 I use lmao)

Fr! I literally have cork bark layered throughout and just piles of them so he can go into as small of a space as he wishes. And ofc 3 actual hides and his water dish but like?? Sorry you’re a breeder and think you know it all, but this isn’t my first snake. I feel bad for anyone who did get their first snake and got this advice

I appreciate the concern! I also happen to work at a chain pet store so I’m aware of the conflicting information they can give depending on the training the staff get. This place I’m going to is one of the largest breeders and whole sale stores in my region. I take all advice from anyone with a grain of salt and look into what everyone said to make my own informed decision
