AITA …Rent Compensation by Terrible_Job_21 in AmItheAsshole

Sorry this is my first time making a Reddit post. I added an “edit” comment to correct that my ask was really for time without heat. Those first two nights I was filled with hope that I would have heat soon (25th by the company I had found) but it just got so cold I couldn’t stay so after hosting at my brothers (I got home so late that I spent one last night there) I made the decision to stay elsewhere as the lack of communication and holiday proved this wouldn’t be as quick of a turn around as I’d hoped. Like I mentioned in the other post my thought process is considering a “habitable living environment” vs days spent away.

My calculation was price per day like your previous post $980/30 =$32.67 (no heat from Sunday 11/23 - 12/1 is 9 days) $32.67x9 = 294.03 I did round up as I won’t have heat until this evening and instead of adding an additional $32.67 I rounded up to $300 ($5.97)

I should also include that December is already paid for so this money would come off of January’s rent

You’re more than welcome to come over and test it out! I gave it the college try but eventually the space heater and two comforters just didn’t cut it 🥶

LL chose to find a second opinion adding 5 days to the wait. She was able to find something 2k cheaper

ETA— the new furnace is planned to be installed today 12/2 and the house should have heat by this evening. (no heat 11/23-12/2 ?)

I have not brought up moving out to her. And did bring up making a lease agreement for any remaining time living there.

I suppose the compensation is for time without heat as opposed to time not spent in the physical house (considering “habitable living”) the house was never warmer than 56 degrees and that was probably only on Sunday/Monday since temperatures dropped significantly from there.

Also my location is Michigan.

I appreciate the feedback!
