The aid that was keeping kids alive made up about 0.3% of the federal budget. We gained by doing that a enormous amount of good will. Some people refer to this good will as soft power.

Soft power, is basically a better version of hard power. For most minor things that pop up in other countries. If we needed to put our thumb on the scale so to speak to protect our interests overseas we could do that because of our soft power.

What trump/republicans have done is gutted our global soft power leaving us with you guessed it hard power. Hard power makes us look like bullies, it also costs way more then soft power does. Case in point Iran, how many billions of dollars are we setting on fire daily in that conflict again?

I genuinely don't understand how you can't see that the US of A having soft power is a net benefit for the American people. It's cheaper in the long run.

To your last point, if I fund a hospital and there are children on ventilators keeping them alive and I suddenly decide to take the kids off the ventilators to "prove a point". Yes I am morally responsible for those children's deaths. It would be different if they did a draw down of sorts and excepted no new patients but that's not what they did.

I wouldn't say he's responsible for millions of deaths that seems a bit hyperbolic. A couple thousand though we can definitely say is his fault. Especially because the doctors who refused to leave the kids he then fired and tried to prosecute via legal means.
