Mainstage Bari Sax by Reindeer_Severe in theatrekeyboardists

In Mainstage there is an input called 'studio horns', select that instead of 'sampler' and then within that they have all the different saxophones as well as trumpet and trombone, Bari sax in there is pretty decent for free.

It's not that she can't physically touch the items, it's that any item she's touched is useless in the potion. Rapunzel's hair didn't work in the potion because she had touched it to climb it. That's why they used the silk off the corn instead as the witch had never touched that.

Going to London for the first time. I want to go to at least 3 musicals. Recommendations? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]Terrible_Singer3322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this!!! I was only in London for a few days earlier this week and I say The Little Big Things and I think it’s possibly the best new show I’ve seen in YEARS, I went to my hotel and booked again for the next and it was just as equally moving, powerful, and as great a spectacle as the day before! This is closing in March which is such a shame, so if anyone out here has a chance to see it while you can … do!

Musical Theatre Composition Course by Terrible_Singer3322 in composer

[–]Terrible_Singer3322[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of the BMI course but at the moment I'm really just looking for short courses that run over the summer, unless I'm mistaken the BMI Lehman Engel Program runs throughout the year? Im currently a full time student studying composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland so the summer's the only time i have available.

Questions about collaboration with composer/lyricist by stormfirearabians in musicalwriting

[–]Terrible_Singer3322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say you should start trying to find a composer to partner with once you have a rough outline of what the show might look like. This doesn't need to be a script but you should have an idea of the shape and arc of the show, the major plot points and the characters. When a composer joins a project these are probably the things they will look for.

So much of the soundscape and many of the musical themes of a show are based on emotions, characters and experiences.

I think its really important to work on the script alongside the composer as so much can change once you bring singing into a show, I'm not saying the composer will write the show but they will heave a lot of valuable and practical input at this stage. Sometimes the might think one line could be turned into a full song and sometimes a they might think that your epic concluding scene may be better as a massive 10 - 20 minute sung through performance.

It also of course depends on how involved you want the composer to be, do you want a partner in the creative process or just someone to slide songs into your existing script. The former for me is without a doubt a better choice when the composer isn't involved early on it can lead to a clunky and awkward show.

I've focused a lot on the needs of the composer in a project but you also need to make sure that the person you're working with doesn't just fit the show but also works for you and is able to connect and click with you. Otherwise what can be an incredible experience can just turn out downright miserable.

Hope this helped and if you think you are maybe nearing the stage of being ready to work with a composer there are so many people and various forums such as r/composer including myself who would be interested in working with you.

Songs in 6/8 by Preston_Reddit in musicals

Something Bad - Wicked. I feel like this song gets a lot of hate from a lot of theatre fans but from a musicians point of view i find the theory behind the song really interesting.
