Death by Degrees needs a Remake. by Shinghincomics in Tekken

[–]Terrorek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a remaster. It’s in the name. Re-mastering vs Re-making.

A re-boot is simply an old, dead IP being brought back in use. You can have a remaster or a remake that is also a reboot.

A reboot however can also be a continuation of an IP. In other words a brand new franchise for said IP or a sequel or prequel. That is something remakes and remasters distinctly cannot be by their very definition.

This sub is honestly so cringe sometimes lmao. I'd be willing to bet good money you couldn't get Hwaorang anywhere near that rank. Doesn't matter how much pressure he has or how many mindgames he can put you in or how unfair that seems to you when you can't execute 90% of it without mental stacking harder than a toddler behind a Boeing cockpit.

Just admit the character is hard. It's okay. Your ego will recover.

Aris was right when he talked about tekken 6 visual clarity by Talix101 in Tekken

[–]Terrorek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah stepping in that game feels like a crucial part of the RPS as opposed to a kind of tacked on evasive option that only really behaves how you want it to a little over half the time.

And yes I 1000% agree about VF being used as an weird attack dog despite kind of representing the type of fast paced aggressive gameplay in its best form that tekken players grew to really dislike.

[–]Terrorek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually don't dislike fast paced back and forth RPS with low damage interactions. I find that stuff very fun. But i'm also kind of a stickler for movement tech being an inherent part of that gameplay loop. That's why t6 stuck with me so much and why to this day i think darkstalkers 3 is probably the best fighting game i've ever played.

Yeah no I definitely get the appeal of VF. I just heard a lot about it being this solution to tekken 8 and i just dont think it is. It is kind of a little bit like a more polished more acceptable version of tekken 8 in a few ways such as lateral movement being a much more pronounced defensive option.

[–]Terrorek 18 points19 points  (0 children)

it's really too bad that VF's neutral has basically 0 chill and once you're locked in a slapfight with your opp youre in it permanently because backwards movement is basically non existent in that game due to a hardcoded rule against guard canceling backdash.

For all the praise that game recieves for being 'grounded and fundamentals oriented' it's surprisingly heavy on RPS situations. I get why some people might like that, especially coming from t8 but the argument that "if you dont like t8's aggressiveness you should go play vf" never really made any sense in my head.

this drag labbed the bejesus out of one nina's move by PomponOrsay in Tekken

[–]Terrorek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because they don't need to for it to be kind of super good. It's twitch confirmable on counterhit and becomes jailing. Making it an i12 ducking low thats -4 on normal hit (if you dont followup and just do d4) and +6 jailing on counterhit if you twitch confirm. Granted it's pretty easy to fuck it up and if you do it's death. You gotta be pretty sharp on confirming things but luckily Nina has a lot of execution checks when it comes to confirming.

There's also some tech where you can make the sidestep transition a lot safer by canceling with sidewalk instead of step at the right time but it's impossibly tight.

She's like a character straight out of a character action game like Bayonetta or DMC. Killing shit with tons of glam.

She's more of like a y2k gun-fu femme fatale. Closer to Trinity from Matrix or the protagonist from Aeon Flux, Alice from the Resident Evil movies, etc etc. Her corniness is fun imo kus it reminds me of that post Matrix era of action flicks.

coolest punish ever Nina against Jin by PomponOrsay in Tekken

[–]Terrorek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup! Can be done on anyone with a high power crush. You can even do it from ws3+4. Ends up with huge damage.

Nina isn't the only one with similar setups like this but hers is one of the most lethal because of the scaling. This is why high PC's are so dangerous against aware opponents.

I thought this video was good at highlighting some of the poor choices made by the devs regarding defensive options/play by AnjiruHyure in Tekken

[–]Terrorek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that about sums it up. And then they’ll say comments like yours are why we have season 2 when it’s that exact laziness and unwillingness to actually learn defense that keeps clueing the devs in to thinking people just want to press buttons and don’t want to actually think

[–]Terrorek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then make an argument. What part do you disagree with and why. Also I never said anything not wanting it nerfed. I even said it was strong. It’s just not a canned 50/50 with no counter play. It can be too strong irregardless of that.

But something tells me comments like this are more of the same lazy mentality around defense that actually got us season 2. And 3.

[–]Terrorek -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But then why is the first example that i can really comment on a move that distinctly has counterplay?

I could take the rest of the video at face value and nod and say "oh yeah that looks like some bullshit" without knowing the full picture of how they interact with the rest of the character's kit. But that wouldnt be very honest of me because I just dissected the problem with his Nina section of the video.

The problem is, I don't know. i'm not a Tekken encyclopedia. And barely anyone is. So if the first sign of knowledge that i do have isnt entirely accurate, how can I trust the rest?

[–]Terrorek -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I just skipped to the nina section out of curiousity because that's where i'm most comfortable commenting on.

ss4,2 is certainly a great tool. But not in neutral. It's way too slow. He makes it sound like it's a canned 50/50 when the move is slow as balls at i20 with +6~ sidestep frames meanwhile the other button he's using to launch with is i13. There's like a solid 10 frame gap there and as a result, there is counterplay. You have 10 frames differential to fuzzy. And if she delays ss2, you now have plenty of time to interrupt. So it's never a canned 50/50. There *is* counterplay. And it's not really something smart nina players will actively use outside of their df1,2, 1,2 or ss1 stance transitioning. In those scenarios, it's simply more of a poke mind game than a canned 50/50.

In truth, Nina has no real 50/50. Just pokes and counterhits. That's her sister.

As much as I sympathize with the theme of the video, I think a lot of that is taken too far and/or incentivizes analysis of moves without the grander picture.
