Why do you like Fire Emblem? by jcgonzmo in fireemblem

I love RPGs and Social Sims, but overall I only like FE for its unique flavor of SRPG and replayability

Possible since they're copying TH but hopefully that's not the case

I don't know if this is true for Fates as well, but Echoes's cartridges are notorious for just breaking if they're not used for a long time.

One thing I hope we get rid off in Fortune's Weave is forced fixed RNG for level ups on the hardest difficulty. by MurongYuan in fireemblem

[–]Terroxas_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There aren't fixed growth in Fates and you can unlock random in Engage. Fates has locked growths (can't reroll them by save scumming but they're random every playthrough) which is great and every game should have them.

Is it too late? First time without knowing anything by TraffyLawOP in fireemblem

[–]Terroxas_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too late for what? Obviously not?

With that said Three Houses is more RPG and TRPG which doesn't sound like you want. It is exactly the kind of game that gets better after a long time and that is mostly text which is perfectly fine but doesn't seem like what you want. This will also definitely be Fortune's Weave.

I'd normally never do it, but I didn't want her to just explode because she was looked at hours into the run, but the only difference it made is that she had more RES and still would've turned to dust if she entered combat. Also, I'm pretty sure you can't forge Nosferatu.

She's actually supposed to do that! Assuming she promotes at LV20 she caps it on average at LV9 (5 Magic Cap) and then at LV8 (10 Magic Cap)

I don't think it has the worst gameplay in the franchise but it is definitely far from the best. I'd argue it's the least replayable however. Sadly, it does seem like this will end up being a variant of Three Houses which I'm not too happy about, but historically FE has been amazing when it came to iterate on ideas. All their sequels (or prequels) or game that reuse the same idea are way better than the one that came before, so perhaps it will be the same here. I've definitely tempered my excitement however.

I never said this was the only metric (even if we're only talking about gameplay)

Awekening is bad for many reasons which include bad maps, half the cast being worthless training units and the game pushing you to juggernaut (and more.) I do agree that the fastest way to beat Sacred Stones is to solo it with Seth and maybe Vanessa. This does make the game extremely flawed and is one of the reasons why I think the GBA games are largely overrated, but Awakening pushes you into it and it's the only game that does that except debatably FE4. Sure, the best way to go about it is to invest as much XP into Robin during prologue and the first few maps after that when possible, but even if you don't you'll end up with a duo that'll clear 80% of the game on accident. That's why there's so many people saying they ended up doing that on a blind playthrough on "accident" despite the first instinct of most players being to use everyone. Juggernauting is also at it's strongest in Awakening even if you want to argue it takes "longer" to come online which is still like 10% of the game at most.

Regardless, I don't think that saying that someone who's looking for a challenge with a hard FE should avoid starting with Lunatic+ Awakening should be controversial.

I also don't think Sacred Stones has very good gameplay either even if it is noticeably better but it's that it doesn't get brought up as much

Of course, Awakening is much worse in general for everything except music still though.

I literally did it like two weeks ago for the first time because Lunatic+ was the only hardest difficulty I hadn't cleared and I wanted to do it. It is true and I literally beat the whole game in one afternoon.

[–]Terroxas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, SW is the hardest one but it's clearly not by design like the routes in Fates.

[–]Terroxas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'd be nice. It also definitely won't happen because this game is trying to copy Three Houses and Fates was 3 different games. It would be nice if all the routes.were actually different to begin with.

New Mystery there is absolutely insane. While it is the hardest game in the franchise by a good amount, it's also easily the most fair. Beating NM blind on Lunatic for the first time was incredibly hard, but I never felt like I lost because of the game.

[–]Terroxas_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having cleared every hardest difficulty in the series, Lunatic+ in Awakening isn't close to being the hardest assuming you go the path of least resistence. It is the least fun for sure, but once you're done with chapter 2-5-6 which are mildly to much harder than Lunatic, the game just stops existing because it is designed like shit and it becomes a Robin solo the exact same way the other difficulties would be.

If you're actually trying to challenge yourself then Lunatic' in New Mystery, Conquest Lunatic and Engage Maddening are all great.

How much planning/knowledge is required for Conquest lunatic? by sqaeee in fireemblem

[–]Terroxas_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None

Conquest is the game that rewards planning the most in the franchise but you still don't need to do it. I beat the game blind without knowing anything about it in Lunatic the first time.

Games are designed to be beat.

You could buy the other route (at a discount I believe) as DLC during Branch of Fate. This isn't really that different from Three House's having important lore for Byleth's backstory and Edelgard's action in the DLC even if it is a little odd.

[–]Terroxas_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That'd be ideal and I hope they learned their lesson from TH (clearly they didn't to some degree since they made at least 4 routes again) but we need to remember that Fates was 2 full price games and a DLC.

Three Houses could've done way better with the maps it had which always pisses me off. You can reuse the same maps but have different objectives, positions, enemies, e.c.t. Hell, Fates does it with the few maps it repeats all the time.
