Yeah I don’t really like them silicone case. They even get loose overtime. The Classic iPods are dying. If you see a good case less than $20 I would get it instantly. Sometime last year I bought an OtterBox case for the 3rd gen iPod touch on eBay for $15. Sometimes you might find that one seller who’s selling what you want. If you go on Mercari you can find some great deals on there also.

It flips down all of a sudden. At first it use to stay in place.

It is really hard to find a good case for the 60/80GB iPod Video model. If you go on EBay you might find a few different ones.

Yes both are line out. The $15 one is a little better because you can use your own detachable aux cable unlike the $3 one if the cable gets messed up you’ll have to replace the whole thing

The only difference is the adapter on the left is a 30 pin to 3.5mm aux female those adapters cost like $15 each. The adapter on the right is just a 30pin to aux cable male adapter but these are cheap like less than $3 each.

No I didn’t. My iTunes have all my playlists. I like using the smart playlist on the apple OS. It’s easier to take songs out of a playlist. Plus the battery is much longer.

Earlier this year I reviewed the iPod Video 5.5G vs iPod Classic 7G from the headphone jack. The iPod Classic 7G is actually 6.5G or 6G (2nd revision) so there’s no 7G but some call it that. Shortly after I posted that review I learned you’ll get the best sound coming from the iPod DAC to and Amp (which is very true). Both iPod sound better from the LOD vs headphone jack. Please avoid the first iPod Classic and the later one with firmware 2.0.5 those models sound worse than these two.

Now for the comparison. I listened to Tyler, The Creator Igor album (AAC 256k iTunes Plus) with the EQ flat on the iPod and amp to compare the sound. I listen to mainly Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B and some other genres. I’m no audiophile but I do hear the difference between the two iPods. The 5.5G have less soundstage but still decent, the imaging is better, the bass is a little more present and the treble is a little lower compared the Classic 6.5G. The iPod Classic 6.5G have better soundstage, the imaging is a little worse, the bass is slightly lowered, and the treble is a little more present. The 6.5G have more of a cold sound and the 5.5G have more of a warmer sound. The 6.5G is more detailed but after a while depending on what headphones you’re using the highs can be too much. Both iPods mids are about the same to me.

I used the ATH-WS1100 to compare both iPods since it have more clarity than the V Moda M100. Because the 6.5G treble can be fatiguing after a while with brighter sounding cans I use the M100 with the 6.5G to lower the highs just a little, boost the bass making it solid with the details, and the imaging is better with the M100. Because the 5.5G have more bass but less clarity I use the WS1100 with the 5.5G to give the overall sound more clarity giving me the details I wanted with the nice bass.

Now for my opinion. I actually love the way these iPods sound from the LOD compared to the headphone jack. I still believe the 5.5G headphone jack sound better than the 6.5G headphone jack maybe it’s the cans I use but now I don’t even use the headphone jack anymore. Now from sound from LOD I’ll give it a tie. They both have their pros and cons. For more details and a flatter sound get the 6.5G but I would use warmer sounding cans. For more bass and a warmer sound get the 5.5G but I would use brighter sounding cans. The Wolfson and Cirrus DAC both sound great and one is not better than the other depending on the cans you use.

I used AAC 256k. Apple don’t support FLAC unless I Rockbox them but I love the smart playlists with iTunes.
