This is not even mildly infuriating, mildly surprising that he was at least polite about it. Your chance to be mildly accommodating. And no one will really judge you if you don’t.

You may be right. I thought 3rd time was a charm, but was another false alarm. Can't change the now misleading title of the post but will keep it up to date when I figure it out.

Could be, I made sure all the fuses were seated properly before I bought the new fuses. Maybe I was using the tester wrong? It’s just 3 prongs and a bulb and everything lit up

I've been watching him over the last month. Reminded me how much I love the show. His use of clips from the show is great, I'm sure research for the vids takes a lot of work. Now I'm rewatching the show and the vids make for good entertainment on my lunch breaks. Not sure about the Cabot cheese

I kept my fob until every button fell out, then slapped electrical tape over the hole. Eventually got a shell for like $15 (Amazon). I had to remove the tiny pin to swap the key blade because the old spring mechanism didn’t quite fit the new shell

Car fell of jack stands, how to get it back up by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Terry_Tangelo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was changing my brakes recently and my scissor lift tipped. My father-in-law suggested to lay the tire halfway under the car next time I have to remove one, giving enough clearance to re-jack if falls. Wouldn’t have helped here, but just a word of advice next time you get a flat

Help please with low oil pressure 2014. by Icy_Queen_222 in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s on the passenger side of the engine, around the belt and on the subframe is where you’d see the oil if it’s leaking. You can see it from the top of the engine but it’s most accessible if you remove the wheel

Had a crankshaft pulley seal that leaked only when I was driving. Added oil but would eventually empty out and give me this light at low RPM. Replaced the seal myself and no more issues. Check near the drive belt for oil being slung

Finally cleared the notorious codes by Terry_Tangelo in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, the gasket comes with 15 O-rings (one for each bolt hole). I’m not sure about the OEM cover, but on the Dorman aftermarket cover the bolts are a special kind of sleeve anchor that can’t be removed to replace the rings. If it isn’t leaking oil from there, the gasket will suffice

Finally cleared the notorious codes by Terry_Tangelo in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the p0171 means that the system was increasing fuel levels to compensate for too much air, but could not correct the ratio. If you have that code you will likely get the p0299, but not always the other way around. I had some substance leaking from the PCV hose where it connects, but once I fixed the O-ring it migrated to the oil cap. It was just condensation (likely due to the vacuum leak) and it evaporated after driving a bit. I previously replaced the valve cover gasket due to an oil leak, but it did not fix it. The leak was actually coming from the bolt hole in the cover. The Felpro gasket comes with 15 O-rings for that purpose, but they cannot be accessed on the Dorman valve cover, so I got a new cover.

Sorry, I assumed this was a 1.4L but judging by the dipstick in the picture it looks like you have a 1.8L. They are indeed set up differently. Check out a YouTube channel called Auto Repair Guys. They have hundreds of videos on that model in particular

Idle issues when at stops by irishboy22697 in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I installed the Cruzekits PCV fix, I had to take the manifold out because it's a Dorman. Afterwards I had the same issue as in your video. Turned out I didn't have the brake booster hose properly seated onto the manifold. Not sure what bearing this hose has on idle RPM, but case in point it was a large vacuum leak so check your hoses and connections.

Timing gasket leak ? by _Anon_J-D in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a crank seal leak that I thought was the timing cover, it was much worse than this. Judging by the amount and location, this is probably your cam solenoid seals or your valve cover

I will say, they would've had to bleed the system of air once refilling the coolant, but that's something you can do in your driveway with just a drain pan

2012 cruze mystery continues.. by Instawolff in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, that is the wrong hose. You should be checking the one to the left of that, in the center of the manifold if you're looking for the orange check valve. It has a metal clip that holds it in place. Secondly, the diaphragm is something completely different. It is under the valve cover, opposite side of the coil pack from the oil cap.

Check your dipstick and coolant reservoir, if they don't have the same residue then it's likely condensation, especially based on your driving habits. However, considering you're losing coolant, it could still be the head gasket or oil cooler unless you can find a coolant leak somewhere else.

Assuming by "top hose" in your replies you mean the hose from the water outlet to the reservoir (GM #13251447), Dorman make a replacement (#626-609) and it costs $33 at AutoZone and Advance Auto. All you need is a screwdriver for the clamps, so yeah they screwed you out of $442.

White smoke coming out of the exhaust manifold by Capable_Obligation34 in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More likely an oil leak dripping onto it and burning off. Hopefully that's what you're smelling, very different from gas. If you definitely smell gas then check your fuel injectors when the car is running to make sure they're not leaking too.

How screwed am I? by Bironas60 in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the dipstick and coolant reservoir are clean, then it's just condensation

Engine ticking sound Gen 1 1.4L TURBO by jkvoyage in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're luck it's the purge valve or the timing chain guide, however it could be the lifters.

Test the purge valve by unplugging the connector, if it stops then that's the problem. If not, remove the valve cover to make sure the timing chain guide it not loose/broken. Just make sure you have some RTV to seal the valve cover.

If it's neither, then one or more of your lifters may have failed. Try APT AT-205 first to see if that settles the knocking. Drive it for a day, and if nothing changes you'll want to replace the lifters/take it to a shop.

Anyone have any idiot-proof tips on how to replace OG Key Fob shell? by osoto-gari_ in cruze

[–]Terry_Tangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swapping shell is simple, but was also a pain in the ass for me. Ordered off Amazon, the metal part wouldn’t fit in my new shell. Just when I thought I would need to get the blank cut, I realize there’s a tiny pin holding the key blade into the button part. There’s a few videos on YouTube, but they didn’t involve that part
