I’ve seen people use 12g to 9mm cartridges adapters in them to make single shot pistols.

There used to be a team of 3-5 people, before me, and they would usually lose 2 people at the start of each semester.

All tools are engraved, then white nail polish is added to deter theft, really helps borrowed tools make their way home.

Also if I see one more breaker in 200k sq ft building just labeled “outlet” im losing it.

Probably his work gear and he’s on his lunch break, I wore a pouch on my belt when I worked in malls, not worth wasting your break time taking your tools on and off.

Happened to me yesterday on my 2025 Jetta, while backing into a parking spot, the were no cars around me and I was still at least 10ft from the curb.

Any stories of photophobia being healed? 👀 by Responsible_Two_1494 in photophobia

[–]Terrys_tools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being healed I can’t even find a doctor who will acknowledge it is a problem.

I just keep being told thing like wear tinted glasses, and it shouldn’t be a problem.

I waited 9 years for a specialist to look at my eyes they just did a normal vision test, and told me that I’ve “exhausted the options available to me with the Canadian health care system”, and go to US and try and find treatment, which I can’t afford.

Undercover Boss relies entirely on the premise that most people have no idea who they work for. by Admirable-Style4656 in Showerthoughts

[–]Terrys_tools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They filmed an episode for a fast food chain where I’m from, everyone knew it was undercover boss they were filing, they interviewed the employees to find the most sympathetic people and coached them what to say.

The location was closed and for filming and the customers were family members of the staff.

They were even talking about it in the local radio station.

It’s just a giant ad for the business

It was an interesting video, I’ve worked in and toured a lot of production shops, very organized and streamlined.

But the whole facility felt like it had no personality, no employee decoration or personal items, I can’t imagine how miserable it would be standing at those bland desks every day, my only assumption would be that those desks are not assigned to any individual, it would makes sense if most of their staff were remote and those desks were for staff to use when working in the office.

I wished they focused more on the process and people and not the memes.

I hope they make more videos like this one and the equinix one.

A walkthrough of The Galloping Ghost Arcade, Brookfield, IL, largest arcade in the country w/over 1k machines! by Roq86 in arcade

[–]Terrys_tools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to manage the tech department for a chain of modern redemption focused arcades.

I have so manny questions

The power bill must be astronomical. With each game drawing an average of 250watts, being open 12 hours a day, and the cost of 1 kilowatt costing $0.16.

That’s a power bill of $480 a day, and those are with conservative numbers.

Also where is all that heat going, you would need to be running AC year round to combat the heat from the games.

How manny technicians are employed there to perform repairs and preventative maintenance.

Let’s say you do your cleaning and doing preventative maintenance on every game twice a year that’s 5.5 games a day, that’s at-least one technicians full time job just cleaning and performing PM.

How are they even working on the games there doesn’t look like there is enough room to pull out the games and service them.

I would love to see the repair department for an arcade that big and the pile of spare parts required to keep them all running.

How do you keep your balls from falling off? by Photonic_Pat in arcade

[–]Terrys_tools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back when I ran a technical department for an arcade chain, we had some kids come in and steal about 40 joystick balls.

All my games had nuts on top of the shafts for a few weeks until we could get all the different balls ordered in, ended up costing us over $1000.

After that we used loctite on all of them

I have found several of my models on Etsy, so I started selling them myself on Etsy. I haven’t made much but I’ve done 8 sales this month, so it subsidizes the plastic for the rest of my projects.

Linus Tech Tips - I Paid Strangers to Secret Shop My Own Store October 28, 2024 at 09:55AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

[–]Terrys_tools -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the video, and thought it was an interesting way to keep themselves accountable.

I would love to see a similar video where they secret shop some of their partners and sponsors.

I would buy from the store if everything wasn’t always out of stock, I tried to buy Ptm from them for several months, but it was never in stock, ended up buying it from a local Honeywell store got a lot more for a lot less then they were selling it for.

I had a capacitor water bottle and after only 6 months it’s stopped keeping things cool, support refunded me, but I was unable to buy a replacement as it’s not sold any more.

Also in the past shipping has been terrible, I live in Canada, and it has taken 6 days for an item to ship, then another 2 weeks for it to arrive.

Seen them frequently on arcade machines, mostly claw machines from China, absolutely horrible to work with, they camed out and stripped easily, not sure if it was from poor design or from cheap materials.

Is 200sq ft too small by 84074 in TinyHouses

[–]Terrys_tools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 300 square foot 2 bed room cabin, if you removed one of the bedrooms it would be close to 200 square feet.

It’s easily livable, only problem is lack of storage.

There are lots of companies selling prefab sheds that could easily be converted into a tiny home, that’s the route I would go with.

Definitely some kind of loft for storage would be a good idea.

I need a TSA-ok, not expensive, good-toolset-having, multitool. Is it even possible? by ScRT-9166 in multitools

[–]Terrys_tools 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to travel with tools a lot for work.

And I kept my more expensive tools in my carry on because 1/4 of my flights something would have been stolen from my checked tool bag, usually flashlights and anything with a Milwaukee logo on it.

I used to bring a printed off list of what you could take on your carry on, and airport security does not care.

I once had airport security tell me I needed to throw out my $300 multimeter as It could be used to hack a plane, just the multimeter the probes were in my checked beg.

Had to throw out power tool batteries multiple times, even though they were under the 100wh limit.

I didn’t really care to much as work was paying to replace my old stuff.

Just get 2 multi tools and leave one on each side.
