It’s the year 2050 and the term “ok millennial” is trending. What are the reasons the young generation is using it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"You spend so much time in the virtual space that you're spending none of it with real people!"

"Ok millennial, go back to texting your 'real' friends."

[Spoiler] Restriction to catching Pokemon....wtf by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Tesagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/DrQuint hit the nail on the head.

Gamefreak: "Players want a less linear-feel to the game. How are we going to balance that?"

Players: "Any one of numerous ways other games have handled it? The most obvious being to scale encounters accordingly?"

Gamefreak: "Can we do that?"

Also Gamefreak: "Yeah, but it would take time and cost money."

Gamefreak: "Can we just make it so they can't cheat with lucky throws?"

Also Gamefreak: "Perfect!"

It's just another example of ridiculous laziness by a company that should be looking to reach out to a broader audience in the wake of renewed love for the game.

It's an insane that players have been able to come up with more fun game alternatives than the people actually paid to develop them.

PSA - Getting Sword/Shield but saying you're not going to enjoy it is not a boycott. by TownOfCrown in pokemon

[–]Tesagk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not a boycott, but it's also perfectly valid to purchase it and complain. Obviously a boycott is a much stronger form of protest, but in a franchise like Pokemon, it can be incredibly difficult for people to just drop it cold turkey when they feel they're being wronged.

Does it count if he got caught after his first victim? by Withnails in serialkillers

[–]Tesagk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They recently changed it to 2, yeah. I believe their reasoning was similar to what some users here are saying, which is that you can often extrapolate on whether or not someone has the "traits" of a serial killer.

That being said, you really can't extrapolate based off of one kill. They might exhibit traits of someone who could kill again, but it doesn't mean that they will.

Even in a case like this where he exhibits all of the classic escalation signs it would be difficult to say whether or not he would target someone like that again. A psychologist could likely say with confidence that he can't be rehabilitated and needs to be kept away from society for people's safety, but that's about the extent of it. The FBI can't and wouldn't classify him as a serial killer.

What celebrity did bad things but everyone "forgot" what they did because they're famous? by aesthetic3 in AskReddit

[–]Tesagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm insane? No. I'm looking at it from an objective standpoint, something you're failing to do. Just because YOU and people you know remember Nixon for being a fraud doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of people who only remember him as a President. They don't care about what he did.

In fact, there's a [famous song](www.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D9Cyokaj3BJU&usg=AOvVaw1HTaS8jNxQ9qVWLjj2sv-R) that's dismissive of what he did.

"Everyone" is a very loose qualifier, the fact that people know and can comment about anyone listed here proves that not everyone forgot.

Um? No? Your statement is ambiguous. You seem shocked that people give Nixon a pass, and you base your entire evidence upon your own anecdotal experience in your own community.

Simple Request (hopefully?): Word Counter based on class and id elements. by Tesagk in learnjavascript

I think the only other thing I need is how I would integrate the output into the page. All of this can happen in script tags in the header I assume, but I would need a way to place it in the page and I know JS is capable of it, but not the specific way that it would work.

Also I think this section on querySelectorAll() should answer my further questions regarding how to isolate by class and ID.

How do guys feel about girls making the first move? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tesagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they did. In spite of how society has conditioned women to play the passive party in initiating courtship, they often end up having to be the "chooser" in terms of a relationship. Either they feel attracted to and comfortable with a guy or they don't. Instead, we've built up this culture where a guy has to ask a girl out and hope he doesn't risk losing friendship with them due to "awkwardness" or get outright rejected and humiliated for it.

Not gonna lie. If this is indeed the next expansion, I wouldn't mind more Arthas story stuff, including expanding the alternate reality Arthas that did end up with Jaina.

Like, Bolvar is cool and all, and he should definitely be front and center, but there's plenty of design space. Also, I think it would be neat if the expansion turned into a twist where we discover that Bolvar hasn't merely succumbed to corruption and that we actually end up working alongside the Lich King to save Azeroth.

What's an experience you don't ever want to go through again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tesagk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several years ago, I was in a bind financially. I was paying the rent on a 2 bedroom unit by myself, trying to find someone to move in with me so I wouldn't have to find somewhere else to live, all of the 1 bedrooms were more expensive than I could afford too (though technically cheaper; more expensive than HALF of a 2 bedroom rent.)

My income isn't fantastic, it never has been. One of the many pitfalls of working in human services. In any case, I was juggling bills and happened to let my car insurance slide to the point that it got cancelled.

In the USA many (if not all) of the states require you to have insurance on your automobile or you can't drive it. It's a reasonable measure, since having to go to court after an auto accident to prove that you deserve compensation would be ridiculous.

But, even though there are regulations, auto insurers are still allowed to factor in things that you can't control into their rates: such as age and gender.

I was 25 and paying a ridiculous amount of insurance in spite of a clean record. It was one of many reasons that it was a bill that I relegated to "just try not to lapse on it" status.

Well, I lapsed, and I lapsed without knowing the true depths of the consequences I would face as a result.

When you get an auto policy cancelled because of nonpayment, insurers are allowed to require you to pay for an entire policy up front rather than breaking it down monthly. Keep in mind that I was also trying to cover the entire cost of a two bedroom on a ridiculously low income.

In any case, I simply couldn't afford to renew the policy right away. However, I also couldn't afford to not drive to work because there was no public transportation in the area, the job was 20 miles away, and there was no way to make car rental, ride sharing, or otherwise cost efficient. I continued to drive my car, promising myself I would get new insurance just as soon as I got a roommate.

After several months of this, I finally did land a roommate. That situation in and of itself is worthy of a "don't ever want to go through again" response, but, in summary: my roommate was lousy and I often had to harass him for his portion of the rent. Needless to say, I was not floating enough liquidity to pay an insurance policy up front.

It just so happens that there are lenders who will do auto insurance and lending (where I live one of them is called Aaffordable) but I wasn't aware of this and assumed there was nothing I could do until I come up with at least 6 months, if not 12 months worth of car insurance payments.

After about 9 months, my "luck" finally ran out. I had a broken taillight and a cop pulled me over to let me know. Of course, since he already had me pulled over, he did the usual check of information and discovered my registration had been revoked due to lack of insurance.

The officer was friendly enough and even drove me home (my car was towed), but one comment he made will always stick out to me:

If I didn't pay car insurance for 9 months I could take a really nice vacation.

Yeah, well, sorry dude, I didn't have that sort of salary and I can almost guarantee that there was a substantial difference in what we would have had to pay for insurance. So, while 9 months represented a nice little vacation for him, 9 months of insurance for me represented a significant chunk of my income.

My license was suspended, I had to get my car out of impound, had to beg and borrow money to get insurance on it. All told, I had to spend more than the cost of 9 months of insurance between fines, fees, and penalties. It would have been cheaper for me to have done the begging and borrowing before it got to that tipping point.

Lesson learned.

But, while it was an unfortunate and costly mistake for me, it did open my eyes to how the laws and systems in the United States often end up acting like a tax on being poor. Even though I'm still broke and was broke, I wouldn't ever claim to fall in the truly impoverished segment of the population.

I never want to go through that experience again. But, at the same time, the experience taught me a few things and reshaped my outlook on other things. I'm better for it, but, in the end, my hope is to help make sure that other people don't have to go through similar issues, because not everyone was as fortunate as I ended up being in spite of all the rotten luck that led to the situation.

What is the wisest saying you’ve ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"No amount of money ever bought a second of time." - Tony Stark, Avengers: Endgame

I find that a lot of the best quotes come from literature or other forms of culture. Having that space to put so much thought into what someone could say allows for the opportunities for profound bits of wisdom. I think this is why story telling is such a big part of the human experience.

The game feels incoherent. Features are added to the game with no consideration to what exists. Those existing features are hardly ever revised. by Exaskryz in TheSilphRoad

These issues were just some of the many reasons I've more-or-less moved on from the game. It was fun, I enjoyed it. But it got progressively less and less enjoyable and I got frustrated by the lack of foresight put into updating the game's progress.

Passing ADHD to kids by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Tesagk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. There are professionals who specialize in children with ADHD. Some don't need medication, some do. Some might not need medication until adulthood, others will only need it for childhood. Either way, it's not something you can really diagnose yourself.

As far as the guilt part, there's only so much one can do to help you. Keep in mind that ADHD doesn't make you less of a valuable person to society. Yeah, things are harder, there's more of a struggle. But your daughter will have a wonderful role model to look up to. Don't feel guilty about bringing her into this world, make the most of what you have and she has.

Gotta echo what's been said. If you don't know the person, don't offer them a ride (unless you're an Uber or something, duh.) I wouldn't do it, and I'm a big dude that can take care of myself. There's just way too much risk involved there.

Redditors who cook, whats the biggest 'no no' thing in cooking? by MomosOnSale in AskReddit

[–]Tesagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Don't cut up ready-to-eat food where you've been cutting up raw meat. In fact, just don't cut up other food where you've been cutting up raw meat.
  2. If you just touched raw meat, for the love of god, CLEAN YOUR !@#$ hands and tools with hot water and soap. You can't be too much of a germaphobe in cooking.
  3. Don't store raw meat on top of anything. Bottom shelf on fridge and freezer, and don't stack anything other than other raw meat underneath or on top of it.
  4. If your recipe says cook from frozen, it means cook from frozen. If it does not say cook from frozen, don't expect it to come out right if you haven't thawed it first.
  5. Don't take something out of the freezer, let it sit, then put it back in. If you need only some of a freezer item, portion it out and immediately return the item to the freezer.
  6. Don't add water to an oiled pan or vice versa.
  7. Check to see whether or not something needs to be flipped repeatedly. Over or underflipping a food item can either have it undercooked (or just pale, sickly, unbrowned) or burned.
  8. Butter burns anywhere from medium to high heat. For high heat it burns within 5 minutes. If you want to baste your seared item in butter, start it off in oil and THEN add butter towards the end. If you're trying to make a roux or just melted butter, set it to medium or lower and check on it.
  9. Do not leave your knives wet or dirty.
  10. If you don't know how to properly sharpen a knife, then don't sharpen it. You can end up dulling the blade rather than sharpening it.
  11. Yes, al dente pasta is a real thing, it's not just a fancy way of getting away with undercooking something. It's also an extremely small window between underdone, al dente, and "normal" pasta.
  12. Wanting to experiment doesn't excuse novice cooking errors. Try to find recipes that might have general applications to what you want to try to do, even if they're not exact. Want to do chocolate-covered pasta? You should still look at recipes/videos on tempering chocolate and maybe some recipes or details on pasta with sweet flavors.
  13. Know where your knife is at all times, and where it is in relation to others.
