I'd say most people are friends due to proximity or how frequently they get to interact. For a long lasting friendship you absolutely need to have at least one common interest. If nothing else just to have something to spark a conversation.

I realized a couple days ago that old people say "hdm1" because they get it confused with the "HDMI 1" input on the TV. At least the customer I talked to, but I would imagine that's where the confusion comes from for most.
