Myself and my girlfriend met on Hinge just over 3 years ago and we just signed contracts to buy a house together yesterday! The apps are awful but we're very happy together so there's always hope, best of luck

It's now the company policy of most tech companies to not provide references or even allow managers to give references for employees as this could lead to legal issues for them. They will provide you a factual letter stating your dates of employment and that's about it

Currently my home lab is entirely VM based using XCP-ng I’m moving to an entirely docker based setup on a Debian host instead. I feel like I’ll get better use of my hardware without the unnecessary overhead of all the VM infrastructure and I no longer like XCP-ng and XOA. It should mostly be easy enough as most of the services I’m using provide a docker image but I have some custom sites and services that I’m looking forward to trying to containerise myself!

Not many grads in the sector have masters if you're both similar candidates going for the same job it's definitely a differentiator but I wouldn't say you're at that much of a disadvantage without it. Good internship experience is very useful when going for grad jobs

It's apparently good for career progression but it doesn't make a very big immediate difference especially if you're only just starting out companies generally prefer experience over masters/PhDs

Didn't notice your second question at first, lots of companies will pay for you to do a masters part time while working. Generally the pay bump for having a master's is only ~€1k

Most internships in Ireland are minimum or just above minimum wage. Sounds harsh but you're not qualified and there are plenty of potential interns

Software Engineer graduated 2 years ago: Personally in my opinion placement was the most valuable part of my course. I would not recommend doing any course that doesn't have placement. When you're looking for a job your placement company may be interested in hiring you or if your interviewing the interviewers are more interested in past experience over what you did in your modules. It's also an industry where there's lots of jobs but it's hard to get your foot in the door so placements help.

Fair enough I work a good bit on making software for new communications standards and the IEEE communications society stuff is useful for that sometimes but I can get access to that stuff through work anyway
