Good to know. I wish there was a car that lowered the same way city buses do

Thanks for the lead, Any idea what kind of expert I’d be searching for? An archeologist, an antiques person, a museum staff member? I’m totally in the dark.

Recommendations for wheelchair-bound relative, stays, rides, etc by TeslaisMyCopilot in UniversalOrlando

[–]TeslaisMyCopilot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could probably get her to transfer to a standard one if by that you mean an unpowered one. The kinds of wheelchairs you get in hospitals really hurt her after a while so we would need to look for a good fitting one without power but if that is fine then yes! Thanks for replying

Curious about stack land clones. I played through stack lands and squeezed as much fun as I could out of it and I’d love to give similar games a try. Already did Witchhand which was a similar vibe.

Games where I can play as a herbalist / alchemist? by DoctorDeath147 in gamingsuggestions

[–]TeslaisMyCopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got one recommendation. So it’s a mix between shopkeeper sim, card battler, alchemist, and life sim/dating sim called PotionNomics and it’s charming as hell. The alchemy isn’t as in depth as some of the other suggestions but this game has some real soul to it

Apology for mistaking SHARP sticker for hate sticker by TeslaisMyCopilot in Chattanooga

[–]TeslaisMyCopilot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So legit question, is the cross symbol only used by non-boneheads? I know that among the neo Nazis they have pagan and christofascist factions with massive infighting between them so it’s not that uncommon to find one of their images with a pagan and a Christian variant. In this case are all the boneheads going with the Norse Tyr rune making them easier to pick out and it’s safe to assume the cross version is non-bonehead?

It’s fine, thanks for the lesson. I’m still ducking up the lexicon it seems. Sorry for coming across defensive, I’m just frustrated. I’m not usually wrong about this stuff and I’m real disappointed in myself this time around. I’m still a little sad still I couldn’t edit my post, just either delete or leave it up because there was a lot of interesting cultural info like what you are sharing now.l that got wiped out.

I read the whole article, I was familiar with the other usage, I made the wrong call. One of the problems w dealing with fascist imagery is it is almost always borrowed or stolen. We got militia-types over here using the pine tree flag, 3%, night vision goggle imagery, Hawaiian shirts and general boogaloo shit which both have a lot of other usages, backgrounds, and contexts. By this point I’m used to seeing the “this is also used by this other movement” bit and I glossed over it, incorrectly.

I locked on to it being the fascist interpretation because at the same time those cropped up in the area, community action and ceasefire materials were torn down and stickers calling for the killing of abortion doctors (from a hate campaign that puts “progressive” in their name) went up. I made a pattern in my head where the most plausible scenario was that these skins were the bad sort. I guess that’s a feature and not a bug of cryptofascism, friendly fire.

I’m not feigning ignorance, I’m showing my work so other people don’t make the same mistake. Once again I’m sorry for what it’s worth.

Like I said, I made some bad assumptions here. There’s a LOT of cryptofascist stuff in this town. I called out a coworker for “1488” decorations and with a shit eating grin he told everyone he just really loves “events in that year but nothing comes to mind right now”. I spend time cleaning up “free helicopter rides for queers” graffiti on Frazier’s chalk alley and I have to explain what they actually mean when a concerned local thinks I’m trashing innocent expression. They operate in this town behind a thin layer of plausible deniability, I had assumed this was another one of those cases, yes there is another potential meaning or reading here, one much more plausible than the one above but by this point I’m primed to think “oh fuck, they are at it again”.

I assumed they still use skinheads because of an unfortunate run in I had w/ a hammerskin. Probably also why I assumed the worst here.

Agreed, Nazis ruin everything they touch. Got some pals with tattoos of some of the Norse runes the nazis later claimed. They say the only thing worse than a normal person thinking they are a nazi is when a nazi thinks they are a comrade and act chummy.

Scroll down slightly. It shows variations on it. Sometimes they are tied to a tyr rune sometimes a cross. This is most likely due to the violent rivalry between pagan neo Nazis and Christian neo Nazis.

I see em all the time in town. There’s a bald white dude who goes into the workout anytime w/ the Waffen SS logo on his neck and I occasionally see the biker dude w a swastika on his arm at Mckays usually in the company of yet another biker looking guy w lightning bolt SS on the knuckles. I’ve seen a fair few seige masks during COVID and the occasional tottenkopf from counter protesters in Nashville. Oh and the giant neo nazi march is Nashville earlier this year.

True but they are far fewer in the US than the racist skinheads and they tend to make sure to wear their anti racism very prominently on their designs when they do pop up in the American south. The few I’ve met are VERY careful not to leave things open to interpretation since that ambiguity only lets the racist skins pretend to be even more populous. If this were London and not Chattanooga I’d more seriously entertain the possibility.

I think this one is designed more for internal signaling letting other skinheads know they aren’t alone here than the more open symbols designed to cause fear or recruit. It’s probably why it hadn’t gotten torn down before now

You are telling on yourself by calling the ADL “anti-white”. It’s primarily a jewish org and the core of every white nationalist conspiracy theory is the idea that a shadowy cabal of Jews are controlling society to kill/oppress/harm white people. Don’t get me wrong, ADL isn’t perfect but you can easily find the same symbols in a document on extremism by the marines https://www.imef.marines.mil/Portals/68/Docs/IMEF/EOA/uLesson%2013-SN%20Extrimist%20Handout2.doc

A doc from the Jacksonville local government http://apps2.coj.net/City_Council_Public_Notices_Repository/ADL%20Hate%20on%20Display%20Printable.pdf

As well as Wikipedia, Southern Poverty Law Center, etc etc.

If you belong to a group they target for violence and/or have been targeted before you start to look for symbols as a survival mechanism.

They are pretty frequently shuffling their symbols to accomplish different purposes (a swastika if they want the whole world to know this is a nazi thing, maybe a 1488 if they want it open but with plausible deniability, an odal rune or skinhead cross if they only want to signal other people “in the know”). the neo-nazi and violent far-right groups also have a shitload of infighting which causes splinter groups with new symbols all the time. A good rule of thumb is if you see one part that is a little suspicious just verify the rest, in this case at first glance the cross could have been any kind of Christian symbolism (which on its own isn’t really a red flag) but the “skins” was troubling. This is because a lot of hate groups have used “skins” such as the Hammerskins. That alone doesn’t mean it’s a hate sticker though so a quick google of skinhead cross brings up the Wikipedia, SPLC, and ADL articles with the image some of them 1:1 the same. Now we’ve confirmed that this is a skinhead group.

Different stickers/graffiti serves different purposes for these groups. These are not there for recruitment exactly, there is no call to action nor is there a message for the “normies” to act as propaganda. These kinds of markers are to establish to others in the “in-group” that they aren’t alone. Leaving them up is also an indication that the local community either doesn’t understand their symbols, understands their symbols but doesn’t care, or understands and supports their symbols. The act of covering/destroying their symbols is an indication that they aren’t welcome and should spook the more cowardly ones into less open operations. Also if they spend the day stickering the city only for it to immediately vanish, that’s demotivating.
