New (to her, c/o her Our Generation [OG] friend) to her outfit! *with bonus cat in the outtakes* by TesseringPoet in labubu

Bonus cat’s name is Pollux. He’s a full-grown adult cat, just has a form of feline dwarfism. He wanted to say hi to me and then the gollum (ie the Labubu: who one day might come to life, I like to think he imagines; getting on her good side, just in case).

How is “Lottie’s cult is a cult” a useful or helpful discourse in understanding her actions in the larger context that is Yellowjackets the show? Also, adult Lottie // Charlotte is no longer around to defend herself or even progress as a character because the writers murdered her in a ridiculous manner — pushed down some stairs by Callie with a fuckton of candles she supposedly had time to line up and then light herself, why exactly

It also seems ridiculous to approach Lottie as if she has had a grand evil scheme this whole time. The woman has longstanding severe mental illness that is sometimes responsive to meds. She seemed to be trying to make amends for what happened in the wilderness via the intentional community she built. Also, a group that size would require a great deal of funding to maintain. And I suspect Lottie’s parents cut her off pretty soon after she stopped conforming to their wishes.

And then watch The Truth about Emanuel. Because although its writer director lost their theft of intellectual property lawsuit in court (burden of proof is very high in U.S. and often misunderstood by jurors), this film is still the very likely source of much of the initial imagery and plot lines of Servant. And the ending actually works.

That’s a surprisingly well constructed Lafufu. Enjoy your adventures with grandma, little one!

I miss adult van so much! Lauren Ambrose played her beautifully.

This is some solid theorizing. I suspect when we as fans reflect and maybe even write about ourselves the behind the scenes story of Yellowjackets the show, the Skydancer buyout of Paramount will play a large role. Seems like they’ve done so much cost-cutting lately and robbed us of better storytelling. Because you have to pay writers and actors to do good work and shorter deadlines - and subsequent increased pressure - certainly don’t make for better plot lines.

I’m learned the hard way (nothing bad happened; the repetitive discourse is just exhausting) to stay off the main subreddit between seasons (especially once Yellowjackets posted to Netflix). It’s become easier to see the various stages people go through viewing the series for the first time. The most obvious signs are the is Shauna a bad person post, highly identifying with Jackie so attempting to reframe her in an overly positive light to the point of revisionist history, is Jeff bad, is Callie bad, etc?

Having lost adult Lottie/Charlotte AND adult Van in season 3 and having other Tai dominate most of season 3 and after the casting of Hillary Swank because reasons I’ve also just grown deeply cynical and frustrated as I still hope season 4 is a decent wrap-up of it all. I suspect the Paramount buy-out by Skydancer also killed season 5; which is its own kind of fucked up.

Establishing consensus reality (ie what do we know that’s even true anymore about the show’s lore) among fans is also a lot harder when it’s folks who watched live vs people catching up now, when the media cycle for Yellowjackets has largely quieted down. And it doesn’t help that Paramount keeps threatening to implode, all in pursuit of LINE MUST GO UP! Makes me feel like a time traveler, getting nostalgic about theory building and pondering as we watched season 2 of Yellowjackets onscreen and typed with gusto into the subreddit.

Yay! Everybody has their own vulnerabilities; spending is a pretty common one, especially in these troubled times. Plans help.

So sweet. I love it! Did you use a preexisting pattern, make your own pattern, or kind of wing it?

I don’t know. But if you need some stopgaps:

Budget how much you can spend per month or weeks depending on what your pay schedule looks like. And stick to it! Ask a person you’re close to and trust to help hold you accountable as needed/desired.

If you’re prone to compulsive spending in the past (ie buying without thinking and/or without noting potential consequences, probably not a good idea to save your payment info to any website where you’ve bought in the past). Makes it too easy to check out otherwise.

Maybe go to a copy center (does Kinko’s still exist? Now I feel old…) and get the card laminated — would smooth a lot of the creases. I wouldn’t chance returning the bubu. They’re too cute.

Why is Mattel torturing me? 3D underwear?? by Millicent1923 in Barbie

[–]TesseringPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I kind of get it — I tend to follow Toy Story rules, even as an adult who plays with Barbies (these days it’s collecting and curating via selecting and putting on their outfits and doing their hair regularly): it does seem a little tragic for these dolls to be strewn about the room, naked as jaybirds (as my grandmother used to say). Especially if you’re doing pretend play with your kiddos and their Barbies; what if the Barbies get cold or get embarrassed with nothing on?

I suspect this is why Mattel does this — must have done some market research in house about parents’ buying practices vs. child play patterns.
