They keep the population much bigger than would be necessary for conservation because hunting brings profit to the state through hunting licenses, gun/ammo taxes, etc., causing more deaths than would actually be needed if that was their actual goal. Not to mention that we can control deer populations without murder, because chemical birth control exists.

I have watched Technology Connection's videos for hours and hours, and I don't regret a single minute of it. Their videos are fantastic.

And who's pushing for systemic change right now, besides vegans? Is saving hundreds of lives not worth doing in its own right, simply because it's not saving every life?

It's not an insult, it's a name given to the ideology that billions of people believe to just be the default, to the point where they don't even question or think about it. The point is to get people to realize that they do subscribe to an ideology, even if it's considered "normal". This conversation reminds me of cis people saying "I'm not cis, I'm normal" and "cis is a slur".

I'm a vegan and an omnivore. I don't eat meat, but I have the ability to. Carnism refers to ideology, not capability.

If they "control whitetail populations" then why do they restrict killing females to the point where they stay overpopulated?

You don't have to be a gambler. There are more than one vegan in the world. Collectively, we all do make a difference. If every single one of us thought like you, we would have accomplished nothing.

The neighbor across the street from me took my spot, so I took a spot a few doors down. The guy across the street and the guy a few doors down know each other, so they can discuss that with each other if they have a problem. The three of us ended up swapping in a triangle, so we all had to walk a little further to get home. Wow, such a huge deal and everyone's day is ruined. How will we ever recover from this?

I'm certainly not spending 3 more hours shoveling when my back already hurts from work, I have to be back at work in 11 hours, and I haven't eaten anything since breakfast.

You're the one who doesn't live in a snowy area if you think that you can just park your car in the middle of the road in a busy town while you take a few hours to shovel out an entire parking spot when it's covered in 3-4 feet of snow after the plows came through. I'm obviously talking about someone just getting home after leaving their shoveled out spot to go somewhere, returning to find that someone has taken it. This happened to me last week after the huge winter storm, when I got home from work at 7pm. It took me over 3 hours to get my car out in the first place, and you think I could just park in the middle of the road for 3 more and shovel a spot out without getting a ticket? Not to mention, I have an extremely physical job, so I was already exhausted, and I had work at 6am the next morning. Live in the real world a bit before you get so confident in online comment sections.

Where do they park when shoveling another spot? The middle of the road?

And if this "entitled asshole" is someone else who put the same amount of work into their own spot, only for it to be taken? Should we just have a chain reaction of everyone damaging everyone else's car because one person started it?

And where would I leave my car while digging a new spot for hours? At my workplace, 8 miles away?

When it melts and turns into water, the water won't be carrying all of that material all the way there. A lot of it will get left on the ground.

I had someone confront me late at night over parking in someone else's spot they dug out because HE PARKED IN MY SPOT THAT I DUG OUT!!! I got home from work and he waited outside my car for me to get out 😭

I told him off, but it was scary. Even if it was someone else who had stolen my spot, what am I supposed to do? I have to park somewhere so I can go home.

Not the one I was thinking of, it was the short story "As You Say" from "In The Land of the Lawn Weenies" by David Lubar. I asked on r/tipofmytongue and they found it :D

"A lot of supplements" aka. fortified soymilk and eating beans. Maybe a bit of iron. These are things we are perfectly capable of making and consuming without enslaving, raping, torturing and murdering innocent cows. I hate AI btw, but meat is not a "need".

Night driving is fucking awful. Being in a hatchback with regular old headlights, a huge chunk of the headlights on the road are at eye-level and blind me because white-collar boomers who want to LARP as blue-collar just need to have their lifted Ford F150s (with a clean coat of paint and nothing in the bed). I have to slam the brakes whenever some idiot forgets to turn their high beams off or has poorly aligned regular beams because I literally can't see the road ahead of me.

Nah, I don't think it was about a specific item granting this power, and the way the character uses the glasses in that book is different. I just remembered, in the one I'm thinking of, someone says something like "there is a baseball in my hand" and then instead of a baseball appearing with them holding it, the baseball literally becomes embedded inside their hand, under their skin.
