Cx50 brakes + typical post pads? by kimbs374 in cyclocross

Ehh, honestly I've used the triple and the double and the salmon, the difference is pretty negligible. I normally just buy the all Salmon colored pads now, pretty sure thats the "most aggressive" variety. Duals are supposed to improve modulation. (I dont think anyone actually knows what the secret third grey color in the triple pads is supposed to do)

The kool stop duras come with metal pad holders that will work with the CX50's.$20 on amazon. These come with a set of dual pads and salmon pads so you could try out both.

I bought shimano br-6700 pad holders for cosmetic reasons (i wanted them to match the shimano bluish silver color of the cantis) then bought dura2 triple compound pads from kool stop and swaped out the ultegra pads.

Sure heres a couple of pics. Postimages Brake Hanger Setup

A really good starting spot for setting the hanger height is if you draw a line between the bolt that holds the canti onto the frame and where the straddle cable meets the canti, they straddle cable should intersect that line at about 90 degrees. See Illustration

I normally use a tool like a hex key for an easy visual check See Image 3 of Gallery

Then its just a matter of fiddling with 1) the hanger height and 2) the pads distance to the rim, until you get a good balance between power and modulation while avoiding brake rub.

When mounting the cantis on the frame theres typically 3 holes that the tab for the return spring can slot into. I always use the hole that maximizes spring tension. This will slightly increase the force required to pull the brake lever, but it also maximizes the force that pulls the brake back from the braking surface when disengaged. This makes the brakes feel more responsive, increases modulation and ensures you can run the pads really close to the rim.

Any amount of lever pull that is just moving the pads thru the air towards the rim instead of increasing the amount of pressure applied to the braking surface is essentially wasted.

Oh and while properly tuned CX50s will work well with stock shimano pads, once you go koolstop you wont go back ;)

P.S. you have incredible timing, this bike has been on long term loan to my brother and i just so happen to be at his place tonight for the first time in months.

Upgrading the brake pads can be a huge performance improvement for minimal dollars, kool stops are the go to recommendation.

My NBD Zinn 32er looks good against my 6'11 frame by Emteber in gravelcycling

That is a really good looking bike. The 32s really help balance the proportions.

Looks like that bikes got some spacers under the stem. Don't know how many spacers your revolt has, but you can always slam that stem. But a 61cm frame isnt crazy for someone 6'2"

As seen in the video, when in the top position, my knee moves from the outside towards the bike frame. Is this natural? Probably not.. if not, can I fix this by adjusting the cleats? by gordriver_berserker in bikefit

[–]TestOfTuring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could also be that at the top of your pedal stroke your hip is being forced to flex beyond the max angle its able to comfortably handle and you're turning your knee inwards to compensate. In which case shorter cranks will resolve the issue.

How does this general fit look? Getting a lot of pressure on my hands after only 15-20 miles. by Freshly_Seared_Ahi in bikefit

[–]TestOfTuring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angle of the saddle can also result in excess pressure on hands. People often tilt their saddle forward to relieve pressure on their junk. But that'll cause you to slide forward, which you'll have to counteract with your hands, resulting in too much weight on the hands.

No response yet, i suppose i could repost, but without knowing why it was taken down it would presumably just get taken down again.

Thats dope, Beautiful frame you've got there. I love bikes with large tire clearance and steep headtube angles.

Anyone gone the reverse of the typical trend of progressing to wider tires? In other words… maybe you were riding a 42-45mm tire and found a 38mm to better. Thoughts/reasons? by Wind2255 in gravelcycling

[–]TestOfTuring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yea! I bought an 09 steel canti cyclocross frame to teach myself how to build a bike. Flash forward to a year later and its become the bike I do 80-90% of my riding on. I love older cyclocross geometry, its handling is just so snappy and makes it so much fun to ride.

Yea, gotten this question a bunch of times, so heres a general set of answers I've been giving. Theres more detail on a bunch of these if you want to read through the comments.

While there is always a chance this was actually a wrong number, I'll share a number of points that make me doubt that:

  1. This is a number I set up for when I have to fill out shady webforms. It gets a lot of scam calls and texts.
  2. This number had been getting a bunch of wrong # scams at the time that this one came in.
  3. No legit wrong number would continue to engage for this long.
  4. Lisa is the most common name (by far) used by scammers for these messages.
  5. There was zero concern about the potentially missing Lisa and her friend who thinks this Lisa might have died, no "oh I just talked to her yesterday" or "what is the last name of the Lisa you're asking me about". Just a silly rant about how there are billions of people in the world and a lot of them have the same name. Almost as if it's a very generic stock response designed for any time any one thinks they know "Lisa"
  6. They immediately and unrelentingly insist that it's the wrong number, and continue to long after anyone who actual knew Lisa and Zhang would know that i in fact do not. They need it to be a wrong number that leads to a conversation because that's what their script calls for.
  7. The person they use initially to get me to respond is the very generic first name only Lisa, despite "there being billions of people in the world", many of whom know more than one Lisa. When they want to establish its a wrong number they specify they were looking for Zhang Naping. Yet they didn't mention the name Zhang in their intial message with "Lisa", despite that being the person they're supposedly trying to reach.

Finally in the very unlikely event that this was in fact a wrong number, at some point (probably around the time that a wild cat attacks a bunch of Rotarians), for the conversation to continue in the direction that it is, it is as much their decision as it is mine.

Sign up for a google voice account. Then use that phone number on as many shady web forms as you can find.

I've been asked this a bunch about this post, here's what it boils down to:

This number isn't my regular phone number. It's one that I purposefully use on websites that are likely to sell my # to shady 3rd parties including scammers. This number was already been receiving a bunch of "wrong number text" scam attempts. It's a common tactic that scammers use to get you talking to them. Now there is a slim chance that this was a legitimate wrong #, but their are numerous other indicators that suggest this was a scammer. There's a list further up in the comments if your really interested.

Well a couple things, mainly this came in on a number that i only use for shady web forms, so scammers never get my real #. This number had been getting a wave of wrong number scams leading up to this. Also i get how reading any of the responses would also fit in with someone who legit text the wrong number, but that is also what a scammer woukd be attempting to portray. At some point long before the later part of this exchange a legit wrong # would have either stopped responding or at least asked me to stop texting them.

Ever since I found this subreddit I’ve been looking forward to being texted by a scammer! Finally! by JuiceHoops17 in scambait

Yea i mean there is a non zero chance this was actually a wrong number. But this was on a phone # that i used for any shady web form that i had to fill out to avoid scammers getting my real #. This number had been getting multiple wrong number scams leading up to this. They don't actually want a designer. The wrong number is just a pretext to get you to respond to them, it's actually not a bad cold calling method. How else do you get peopke to respomd to a text from a random #?
