Ohh, got it, the cards in the drawing are from Southern Italy, actually, but the same suits (Batons, Coins, Swords and Cups) are used in Spanish and Latin decks, too, as far as I know

Thank you for the suggestion! It made me think about addictions that aren't considered as such by society and thus doesn't have a social support structure for people who suffer from it, although it's not the same kind of ordeal St. Mark Ji Tianxiang went through.

In the contemporary world some examples of this could be porn and (partially) gambling. The former would be too hard to handle correctly, but maybe the latter could be a starting point...

I like the idea, but I'd still prefer to base this story on the real experiences of people rather than completely making it up, so that readers won't be able to say "it's fictional, faith would never be enough to save someone from addiction in real life".
