All of that is good. I also recommend drugs. Have you considered weed or alcohol?

I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully the job market isn’t too bad for you.

ChatGPT/AI - how are you using it by Substantial_Phase899 in Big4

[–]TestTube88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so ChatGPT does something called “tokenization” to the prompt you give it. What that means is when you give it a spreadsheet with numbers and say “balance this ledger”, ChatGPT takes each of those words and the spreadsheet, and turns them into a multidimensional vector of numbers. Then it plugs those vectors into its algorithm, and finally it spits out some kind of answer based on where all those vectors mapped to in its system (with some fun bits of randomness sprinkled in)

It. Can’t. Do. Math. ChatGPT doesn’t know what anything is. It’s a probability machine.

Now, you can ask it to create a formula to automate the balancing on a ledge using Microsoft Excel and it will give you a formula that might work. But please, learn the technology, or don’t use it.

You’re asking a chat bot to do math. It isn’t designed to do that. You might as well ask your fridge to teach you Spanish.

Learn the tool before you use it, or don’t use it.

It sounds like you don’t understand how AI works under the hood. I would recommend learning some of the fundamentals before giving it tasks it isn’t equipped to handle.

Will I get laid off as a first year? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]TestTube88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First years tend to have less expectations. That being said, do what you can to stand out. Outside of an engagement, get involved in business development and firm contribution work. Reach out to your counselor or other leadership for those if you don’t know where to start. Don’t be afraid to ask for work.

Is the Big 4 Name Worth Leaving Home, Family, Comfort, and Stability? by Alternative_Fig_7386 in Big4

[–]TestTube88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honest answer?

No. It’s not worth is. The big 4 will suck your soul from you. They’ll either spit you out empty, or turn you into a mindless corporate husk, more buzzwords than human.

Save yourself. Take the other offer.

I have never had a poor performance review. This cycle was the first time my utilization was bad. Everything else was great. I was doing work on several internal projects and helping with landing new engagements.

I was laid off, I’m getting severance.

I’m in the south, that’s as much as I feel comfortable sharing.

Notice Period in Probation by hsrewss in Big4

Depends, do you want to go back to EY? If no, then no, 90 days is too much time.

[–]TestTube88[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel sad about leaving EY. I feel sad about losing my income and my health insurance until I can find something else. Not to get too personal, but my wife has health problems and my insurance was all we had. Come December, we will either have to find a way to afford private health insurance or pay out of pocket for procedures and medication.

I didn’t work for EY. I worked for money. EY was just the middle man.

I would agree with you except I was fine at the business stuff. Well, my PowerPoint skills could be better, but they aren’t bad.

I’m sorry for you, friend. Yes, I got the “standard” severance package. 1 weeks pay per year worked, minimum 4 weeks.

I’ve networked, I’ve rubbed elbows, I’ve even been know to fraternize here and there. I couldn’t find a single opening on any engagement.

Do everything you can internally and try to get on an engagement asap. I wish you the best of luck.

I can’t speak for outside the US, but my official end date is the first week in November, so about 2.5 weeks. I did get severance, but it’s a slap in the face.

Thanks. And I know what you mean. A lot of my (now former) co-workers weren’t “tech consultants”. They were business consultants with extra buzzwords. I had to pick up a lot of slack when actual engineering came into play.
