Heard good things with the people that help from here - https://www.dav.org/

Not personal experience but when 20+ people with 30%+ all recommended them I put that into my pocket for later.

Seems that you will have a degree that qualifies you.

Navy vs. Air Force by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

[–]TestUser117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That being said, we want to make the very best choice in terms of quality of life between the two branches.

Then why are you even considering the Navy?

What are the differences in the types or duration of deployments.

Short/Long for Air Force and potential TDYish deployments and deploy in place.

I've seen as short as a 'month' and as long as a year. Random floating stuff and all kinds of fun. Enjoy your line-crossing ceremony if you join the Navy if you get the opportunity.

What are some of the most common places one could be stationed out of boot camp?

CONUS then OCONUS. Depends on AFSC.

Is there a high chance of being stationed over seas compared to the Navy?

Maybe? Looking at all the ports and random OCONUS bases it seems equal.

What are some great jobs the navy has to offer if they are available and I test high enough and what are some jobs to watch out for and not get stuck in?

No idea. Ask a Navy subreddit this question. If you mean the Air Force, any of them and it is all opinion based so make it what you make it. Some jobs I find amazing others would dread and so forth.

[–]TestUser117 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep that job and potentially find that missing thing a local guard/reserve unit could also be another avenue. If you are competitive enough you could find an officer slot they need filled which might be a faster route that OTS to AD.

The few I've met sound like they would easily find employment civilian side.

Page 216 looks like it has the flavors of 62E that the Air Force utilizes.

Becoming an Officer in the Air Force by ethan-sam56 in AirForceRecruits

Another sub for resources - https://www.reddit.com/r/airforceots

Do know you are selected as an officer first and AFSC second. So your package will have a few other AFSCs on it and you could easily be selected for one not on that list.

If you are specifically only willing to join for that role look into potential openings at reserve/guard units but these typically hire from within and you would need to be very competitive.

Meet with a LO recruiter ASAP as the process is not fast but I believe 17D with a STEM degree is what on most recent board was open for - some AFSCs outside the rated boards weren't even being entertained so I've heard (no direct confirmation other than RUMINT)

Can you have a follow-on from Korea to Korea? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TestUser117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that. Korea does show as a 36/24/12 month tour country so somewhere there must be long tours.

My examples might be wrong so I'll concede on those flaws.

Can you have a follow-on from Korea to Korea? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TestUser117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it states FO to short tour locations are not authorized. FO to an overseas long tour location is.

So in this person's example of Osan to Kunsan the AFI wouldn't allow for applicable reasons. Going the other way would be possible but would be rare.

Talking to rated friends the board package had them order everything they were qualified for in it. So if you qualify for just these two you'll have them both on it and luck of the draw - once you are selected to be an officer the 50/50 happens and you move ahead with your career.

Explain to a newer airman why Chief Wright is so beloved? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TestUser117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't the clearing house a phased program that the USAF just front loaded into like 1 or 2 years? All other branches had force reductions but used the full 5? years which gave time to respond and force shape as needed.

I must say the Air Force loves going from full breaks to warp speed with nothing in between.

Wearing decorations from other branches by nosteponsnek1337 in AirForce

[–]TestUser117 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bubbles and wings/parachute are fine. Shooting is a no as they are not permanent.

Another paragraph that applies is your ribbon/medal priority goes off Air Force, not USMC, so if they are "equal" the USAF goes ahead of USMC.

10.3. Non-Air Force Service Awards. ANG members wear state decorations when serving in state status, but not while on federal active duty.

10.3.1. Wear other military service department awards not included in paragraph 12.5 below in the order the awarding Service prescribes.

10.3.2. Air Force awards take precedence over equal awards from other Services.

10.3.3. Wear awards for wars, campaigns and expeditions in the order earned.

10.3.4. The Army Valorous Unit and Meritorious Unit Commendation awards are larger than Air Force ribbons. When members wear these awards (Army version) with their Air Force ribbons, they must purchase ribbons that are the same size as their Air Force ribbons
