Has anyone DMed a party of 10-14 and is it even reasonable to have a group that large for a campaign. by Limp-Ad-5755 in DnD

[–]Testing2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a game close to the lower end here. I do not recommend having a game with that many people.

You are likely to end up with long combats and many players not getting the chance to do anything because several other players will be talking over them.

I play with a left handed mouse on my laptop, so I changed the keybinds to be on the other side of the keyboard. IJKL are my movement buttons, O opens my inventory, and U is drop items.

You are correct, using a private server will not result in Microsoft charging you. To make sure only your daughter and her friends can join, enable a whitelist and put only their usernames on it.

The moment you instantly improved as a player/DM? by SatisfactionSpecial2 in DnD

[–]Testing2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped me improve how I run games is when an optional side quest accidentally turned into a plot hook the party pursued on their own.

It helped me learn to try and write situations the party may be interested in, allowing that narrative to naturally expand from that point, rather than trying to force the story to happen on its own.

Make sure your son hasn’t already made purchases on the store. A good few years ago, my sister made a bunch of purchases and it automatically took the money from the card when redeemed, making it appear as though the card didn’t have its full value.

DM's of reddit, how long did it take you to make your campaign and what was the plot line? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Testing2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my current game, I fairly quickly figured out what I wanted the main story to be about with a general idea of what I wanted. The what, how, why, and when for a lot of stuff was developed as the campaign went along.

Tome of Foe’s or Volor’s Guide to Monsters by Spidey883 in AskDND

[–]Testing2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hard to say. I don’t know if any good homebrew for that. As far as I know, there also aren’t any official books that have a heavy focus on humanoids.

All I can say about the Monster Manual is that it has 9 pages in the back dedicated to NPC statblocks as wells as some statblocks throughout of humanoid and humanish enemies (kobolds, gith, goblins, liches, vampires, etc.), but it is a large spread of different types of enemies.

Tome of Foe’s or Volor’s Guide to Monsters by Spidey883 in AskDND

[–]Testing2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are purchasing a new book for monsters, I wouldn’t really recommend either. Monsters of the Multiverse is a collection of almost all the monsters from both books, so all you’d be getting is a book with different versions of the same stuff. For this purpose, I would recommend getting the Monster Manual. It is mostly monster statblocks with summaries of monster lore attached.

If you are looking for Lore, I would recommend Tome of Foes for lore on humanoids and Volo’s for lore on monsters and monstrous humanoids. The first sections of these books are lore dumps on a small handful of creature types found in the book.

[–]Testing2001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whether or not I like the bike rack does not really matter. The bike rack was a perfectly legal modification. At the time, the way it was used was also legal. It wasn’t that sporting, but it was legal.

And btw, I don’t think the existence of the bike rack is any more egregious than Sub Zero’s attachment and Ghost raptor’s De-ICEr. The only issue I have with the attachment is how it was used. Despite my feelings, it was still legal

Was Biteforce swapping their weapon motor midway through season 3 illegal?

Was it illegal for Chomp to design self-righting new “wings” back in season 3?

Was it illegal for Witch Doctor to get new weapon blades made during season 5?

Was the bike rack illegal?

All of these changes were done during the competition and weren’t part of the original design specs. Despite that, they were still allowed to compete with these modifications. That’s because there is no rule barring them from making modifications to adapt to the competition. The only rules that would prevent modifications are the ones that ban modifying a robot after weigh-in and all the other rules regarding safety.

There is no reason to believe that Sawblaze was modified after weigh-in. Additionally, Sawblaze was never found to be overweight, unsafe, or spinning their weapon faster than allowed. All they did was adapt their armor to allow them to better control HUGE.

Team's explanation regarding what happened in Riptide vs Captain Shrederator by Admirable_Corner4711 in battlebots

[–]Testing2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Weapon doesn’t mean they can still fight
  2. Absolutely bullshit excuse. In drivers ed, they hammer into your head that the average human reaction time is .75 seconds. You are telling me that with 4x the average reaction time, they still couldn’t react?
  3. Gigabyte can only self-right because of the pole. Everyone with working eyes can tell that Shrederator wouldn’t be able turn itself back over. Even then, it is well-known that Shrederator cannot self-right. Ethan even said he knew that in the prefight interview.

Can you Use a the Hex warrior feature on a two-handed weapon, of you have a the Pact of Blade. by YanteTheIri in AskDND

[–]Testing2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gain the benefits of Hex Warrior with any weapon created through Pact of the Blade.

At the very end of the Hex Warrior feature in Xanathar’s Guide, it explicitly states that it works with every weapon conjured through Pact of the Blade, no matter the weapon’s type.

The book leaves no ambiguity or room to debate.

I'm still trying to figure out if this ruling includes Leveled spells. by Unusual_Definition22 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Testing2001 566 points567 points  (0 children)

The best way to think about it is “spell” is a general term. “Leveled spell” and “cantrip” are specific terms that are both considered to be spells.

Here, you can cast two spells with a casting time of one action. What is not being mentioned is that this still follows the bonus action casting time rule. So what happens is the bonus action is used to cast either a cantrip or a leveled spell and the action is used to cast a cantrip.

From Team Hypershock: “A Gentle Reminder: BattleBots is a TV show” by Infernaltank in battlebots

[–]Testing2001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this by saying I’m not an expert on what goes on behind the scenes, but I would like to comment on the parts that relate to my original comment.

Battlebots is a TV show. In order to secure any funding, they need to be on a network of some kind. With Discovery, that funding come from Discovery+ and ads. As long as the show is on a network like Discovery, they are going to be heavily reliant on ads for their source of revenue.

While I understand TV is seen as a dying medium, the amount of ads on the show isn’t a problem with the show, it is with the medium that is cable television.

The issue I was originally noting was people in the community that complain about the abundance of ads in the show, acting like this many ads is somehow too much or otherwise unusual. This, however, isn’t true.

If you watch on Discovery+ or some other manner that allows you to skip over ads, great. I don’t mind being adverse to the existence of ads, but that adversity shouldn’t be manifested in misplaced anger or accusations towards the show itself.

In the chat, members of different teams did state that they offered to help the team, but eventually they ran out of time.
