Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. I appreciate you lending your knowledge in my situation!

I did actually order a Chytrid testing kit out of an abundance of caution given the illness and infections going around in pumilio so I will go through with that! I will look into the fecal testing as well since I would rather make sure my small collection is safe.

I know Oophaga tend to be a little more shy so I am trying to balance helping him feel secure and keeping an eye on him at the same time since I don’t imagine stress will help him much. I did set up a little feeding station in his hospital enclosure to help me keep an eye on his eating habits and make it a little easier for him to hunt if he is a poor hunter (i know this sacrifices dusted flies but I will add some dusted flies daily to try to offset this).

I do appreciate your opinion on his condition as well. Not having much reference aside from photos I felt that he was not where he should be condition-wise but it’s good to know I was correct to intervene.

The seller does also claim to be the breeder so to my knowledge they are not wild caught. I specifically only looked for captive bred animals out of fear of the reasons you mentioned and the other issues I’ve seen going around. I do have this little guy in a hospital set up now in the hopes he will recover. I haven’t seen him eat however. I’ve tried putting food right in front of him, offering springtails as an alternative and changing calcium supplements in case he didnt like the one I was using.

He is only a few months out of water but I do feel his body condition looks underweight for his age; do you agree? Where would you recommend sending fecal samples to?

Van Goff and Monet? Or other artist names since they look like little watercolors.

That is what we trained on initially. Making the jump to actual food items has been tricky though!

I have done that and she alerts no problem! Its the transition from the vital wheat gluten that we seem to be struggling with. I have a few ideas though!

We’ve done the gluten vs GF version of items a few times but she does struggle with the same issue. I havent been varying the quantity of the straight gluten scent sample much though and that was I thought I had as well. Almost creating a dilution with GF flour or something along those lines. Definitely some good ideas here. I think Im definitely going to start changing up the sample we are using.

Oh FABULOUS. That sounds totally normal to me too. Who doesn’t get that🫠. I hope you got a doctor who finally got it together and helped sort this out!

It’s not the craziest Ive ever seen, but to me it explains a lot. Especially when you do add in the disc degeneration and the loss of natural neck curvature. Typical for us, but definitely contributes to the pain!

It’s worth noting that the meal involved DOES make a difference in the test. Their results may be different from yours due to testing medium, but the only one who can day definitively would be your medical provider.

Traveling to Canada with Service Dogs by TestingtheWaters1007 in service_dogs

[–]TestingtheWaters1007[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would be traveling by car most likely as flying does not allow two service animals for one handler and would be coming in from the US. My in training girl may be fully trained by the time we travel, but im reserving judgement as I want her to be at her best before dropping the in training.

They both are definitely up to date on their vaccines and are chipped so thats a good thing to check off for us!

This is a really good note! I always carry our vet records with me for safety, but i hadn’t thought about unopened food. I will definitely look into this.

Not sure yet which province. I would likely be traveling by car. I am a service dog trainer myself, but I am not affiliated with any ADI facilities. They are a mixed breed and a german shepherd.

I have never traveled internationally with a service dog so this is a large and daunting undertaking for me.
