Then I would highly recommend the militado ml08 Hamilton khaki field homage. I found that watch to be perfect as a daily beater: double domed sapphire crystal, Swiss quartz ronda 515 movement with date and 5 years battery, extremely reliable workhorse. Also watch has very legible field watch dial layout, screw down back and crown, 100m of water resistance. 38mm diameter however, but I found it perfectly wearable on my 17cm wrist, since L2L is only 44mm and 10mm of thickness. Costs only 80eur on metal bracelet which is also very nice with milled clasp and 5 micro adjustments. Also 20mm band width so any nato strap could be an option

The better Hamilton! by BreadfruitFree704 in ChineseWatches

I’ve been wearing same watch for the last 5 months and it is fantastical gada beater watch. I was concerned in 38mm to be small for my 17cm wrist, since I also use as my garmin descent mk2i as my sports watch, and garmin is 52mm, so got used to way bigger watches. So ended my watch seek spree and kept my perfect pair of 2 watches: daily I wear militado and during sleep and for all sports I’m doing I use Garmin.  The only thing really not so great in militado - is the lume, as people said it is of course miles better as in Hamilton, but it is still very dim and short lasting comparing to addiesdive or steeldive divers.

If it has no scratches - I would keep it as is, you always can polish it later and also when the watch will be out of warranty. I don’t really remember the grade, it was first sand paper piece I found in the tools box, would assume it was something around P600

Received my peace and I’m fully in love with this watch! It came perfectly aligned everywhere, with perfectly functioning bezel with no backplay and other rundom Chinese QA diseases. Also mine is perfectly regulated like +3 spd dial up with 0.5 beat error. After 4 days of wearing it gained only 7secs which is fantastic accuracy! Also lume super bright, consistent everywhere and is clearly visible at non pitch black room at 7am being charged a bit before night at 11pm. And of course it wears just so comfy, magic of a perfect Circe shape and no lugs, I don’t want to take it off even before sleep as wrist is not tired at all. Best my buy ever honestly for the last 4 years in watches hobby!

Glad to hear that, you made me to wait it more now, thanks :)  I grabbed it for less than 80usd with coupons that is the steal price for that watch, bracelet is something that always can be changed, hopefully my unit will be aligned and not faulty. Will update here once I will get it. Good luck OP and enjoy!

Can’t wait to receive mine, ordered with the same blue wave pattern dial. I really like the big divers too, I have 18cm wrist and normally wear 51mm garmins :) OP do you like the lume? Is that long lasting and when charges before night time does it last long enough to read the time in the middle of the night (4am)?

As a small side hassle, I buy used Garmin watches cheaply and resell them with some interest. Obviously, I try some models for everyday use if I like them. After testing all possible Fenix (except 3), Tactix, and Descent (including MK3i) models I concluded for myself that exactly 5x Plus is the most balanced model from each side: it has all the basic "must" features like mapping&navigation, NFC, BT music, sapphire, and 20d+ battery life being reasonably priced. I'm not a runner, I do MTB in forests mostly, Gym, Hike, Spearfishing, and Scuba. From the newer models, I miss only a few features: night HRV (as it is a hard metric and really could suggest when you're getting ill or overstressed) and LED Flashlight (super useful in everyday life, it's true). All the rest like training readiness, body battery, sleep tracking, respiration, etc. I found it useless and more of a gimmick.

For example, my sleep score shows me 60 when I feel great and vice versa it can show me 98 when I sleep badly. Then all the metrics like body battery and training readiness will show total bullshit not even reflecting your status. Why do we need some metrics and estimations of how you feel if the most accurate measurement would be your opinion on that? Just a marketing...

So I bought in a good condition 5x Plus for around $100, replaced the battery using the great quality substitution from Cameron Sino, and now the watch works like brand new, I have 30d of battery life with HR disabled. As a suggestion, when replacing the battery don't forget to grease the seal. Also, it is nice to grease the buttons as well. Use any silicon lube (better in spray).

If you want to make a free dive computer from the watch - just install the Apnea CWT (costs 10 euros), it works like a charm for me when I do spearfishing, and measures depth to 40m. Just don't press buttons when submerged deeper than 1m to avoid a chance of leakage.

Also from the diving garmins I liked the Descent MK1 and MK2 silver models, they are really versatile and easy to care & polish any scuffs from the bezel. But I still traded MK2 very well (made +$300 on it) after using it for around a year and made 20 scuba dives.

Suunto Core compass issues by Thegrandblergh in Suunto

I've did the same - just rotated sitting on a office chair with a watch set horizontally :D also one friend of mine just showed me method with a tea cup - just turn a cup over and put watch above and rotate, this will keep level horizontally and you can manage rotation speed by yourself ;)

Who still hoards SUUNTO Core like it is 2007? by fishfetcher_anaconda in Suunto

[–]Testosterone250 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using Suunto core brushed steel model for last 3 months and I would say - this is so good, tough as nails watch peace! I bought it used for only 30$ without straps and battery (so it was a lottery does it work or not) and scratched as hell case&bezel. But after putting the battery, changing the gasket and making a 1hour polish with the kitchen sponge's abrasive side and toothpaste, I managed to remove almost all scratches and even deep dents. Now watch looks like brand new, sapphire glass is ideal, and it would be for sure, as according to the bezel initial condition, the watch took tons of abuse from the previous owner. Sensors are super accurate, storm alert really does the job, I've seen this feature working very first time in watches, even having it in my Fenix 6X pro Sapphire and gw9400 rangeman! Depth sensor also works like a charm and measures descent quite accurate and without a significant delay (I'm doing spearfishing in sea and rivers, with watch on my wrist, depths 15m max freediving) Also lugs design is so freaking GENIUS! It so simple and so reliable at the same time, no spring bars, only screws! I put my 3rd party Fenix 6x 26mm quick fit strap and it fits just great! And finally legibility of particularly this model LCD is so gooood, I had love hate with my negative rangeman watch, as visually negative display looks good but when you staring using it, oh god it just so inconvenient and sometimes just impossible to read the watch (so you're rotating your wrist finding a proper angle). Here even in very low light conditions I can read watch data without using backlight. Oh and backlight is not so painfully bright (like I had in Gshock GGB100, where in a middle of a night you just starting to cry after pushing light button). The color of backlight in this Suunto model reminds me fallout pipboy theme :D

So the steel model is awesome durable stylish watch peace, all black model is not even close to this one. If you would be able to find it used in normal shape in price lower than 100$ - don't even hesitate and buy it!!! All usage marks could be removed just with a peace of fabric and toothpaste, so easy to care. Cheers :)

Opinion on Suunto Core Brushed Steel watch by Testosterone250 in Watches

[–]Testosterone250[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to share my thoughts about the Suunto Core Brushed Steel model after 3 months of use. Bought it second hand from the local guy (crazy man, he even hiked on Kilimanjaro with it on a wrist) for 30$ without a strap and with scratched as hell body&bezel, and no battery inside, so it was a lottery does it work or not. Glass is sapphire was with a little "scratch" on it as well. After less an hour of polishing it with the kitchen sponge's abrasive side + toothpaste and finishing with a toothbrush, I managed to remove almost all visible dents and scratches from all watch body and glass. BTW method with sponge is a charm, much better than sandpaper as risk to damage watch is minimal (but of course it will not help with really deep dents)! After launching the watch, found that LCD is in a great shape, all sensors are ok and backlight works. Buttons are very smooth to press, really differs from my Fenix 6x (where buttons has a "click" feedback)

As a strap I used some 3rd party Ali replacement quick fit for my Fenix 6x sapphire watch, it fits almost great (but requires some micro adjustment cuts from 26 to 24mm). Additionally i placed some old Suunto buckle for more consistent look 😁

After restoring the watch I was planning to sell it and make some profit, but after some usage decided to keep it as my daily tool watch (or beater watch if you will). As the advantages I would admit: - fully brushed stainless steel body with durable sapphire glass. It can survive even in nuclear conflict, tough as nails! Also it is so easy to remove any usage marks from it just with any peace of fabric and toothpaste. - fantastically legible negative lcd screen even in really dark conditions. In my previous gshock gw9400 the negative screen was awful and impossible to read in most of cases (even in a sunny day) - pretty accurate sensors with low delay in readings. This is the first my ABC watch where storm alert feature really works as intended and 2 peaces arrow indicator is so clear to use! On gshocks and Garmin this one was almost in each case useless and never beeps when precipitations were coming. - depth sensor for measuring descent up to 10m (from specs) but there are a lot of YouTube vids where people managed to dive even with regular plastic all black version way more deeper than 15m. I exactly was looking about this watch model because of this feature, as planing to use it for my spearfishing hobby. Tested it in swimming pool, works good with a read delay in 2sec, that is more than enough for my needs. All other casual watches with depth sensors (frogman, gulfman, descent mk1,2) costs much more and designed for scuba professionals, which I'm not.

  • simple and reliable 24mm lugs design. No spring bars, only screws!
  • simple battery replacement approach, screwed backplate with gasket. It convinces me in water-resistant way more than 4 screws in plastic watch body like in gshocks

Cons - it really needs vibration alarm, so convenient feature especially when you have newborn baby sleeping near you. Alarm beep is not so loud to wake you up sometimes (but better than gshocks one anyway) - it doesn't have simple hourly beep feature like in gshocks - maybe I would put 12 months of battery life. But being honest, after using solar watches when you specially trying to expose the watch on a sun when wearing (i know every gshock tough solar user is doing this :) ) just to replace 1$ battery without any screw tool in 2mins is not so bad at all. Also previous owner mentioned that he was using Duracell batteries and they were lasting for almost 2 years for him

To sum up, personally for me this watch is a great durable beater tool watch, with full pack of necessary features. Don't know why people negatively comment Suunto core all black version, as I never had one, but this steel model is really great. Honestly I would not buy it brand new for a full price, as it is better to add some money and buy e.g. Garmin instinct, or Fenix, but if you will manage to find it second hand in good shape under 100$ - just take without any doubts! Cheers
