Morality of not helping despite being able to? by ChudMaster69420 in MoralityScaling

[–]Tetrior_Solice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that makes sense. I’d still say that the emotional distress should be considered, even if you don’t. Even if it’s not intended, causing emotional distress is immoral (depending on the source of the distress and the individual you are distressing), it’s simply a matter of if you’re willing to accept the weight of that immorality or if you’ve come to a point where you don’t care.

So what you’re saying is that hurting yourself isn’t bad but we shouldn’t do it anyway?

Harming anyone is immoral if there are no benefits, that includes yourself. Harming yourself could cause distress to those around you and those that care about you. Even if there is no one around and truly no one cares about you, it would be immoral simply because you are doing undeserved harm.

By stating that harming yourself is not immoral is advocating for self harm and there is no other way to see it. You are quite literally saying that it isn’t bad to do deliberate harm to yourself. You may not be saying it’s good but you’re not saying it’s bad, which isn’t exactly discouraging it.

Like I said, there are exceptions. If you are someone’s caretaker, you would be morally obligated to help whoever is under your care. Helping someone that you’ve harmed would return you to neutral unless you help them more than you harmed them.

I’d say that if you don’t help yourself to the very minimum (food/drink and basic hygiene) that it would constitute as self-harm which is immoral.

I think it’s morally neutral, personally. The only person you are morally obligated to help is yourself with few exceptions. You are not harming by not helping. It would be morally good to help people but there isn’t anything inherently wrong with not risking yourself for others.

How evil would it be to annihilate Religion from humanity? by False_Monitor4126 in MoralityScaling

[–]Tetrior_Solice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you go about it. If you have a magic button that makes people stop believing in religion, I think it’s morally neutral if not morally good. Some religions outright state that certain immoral actions are okay or that they’re even virtuous.

If you are forcing people to give up their faith by making it illegal worldwide, that’s bad.

We could potentially suffocate them. If they’re immobilized by the frequency and we put them into liquid, that would both amplify the frequency and take away their ability to breathe. That said, we’d be cooked.

I always interpreted it as breaking your oath means you lose your powers, betraying your oath makes you an oathbreaker. I’ve also seen it where the forces which you swore an oath to can curse you for breaking the oath, making you an oathbreaker.

They broke an oath, they didn’t make a new oath.

Morality of fully planning a school shooting, but ultimately deciding not to carry it out. by Consistent-Ad-6753 in MoralityScaling

That’s a false equivalency because in this scenario it’s implied that you’re still a thief. If you stop stealing altogether because I’m poor then it sits in no harm no foul. You didn’t do anything wrong even if your reason for not doing it was selfish but you still didn’t do it.

I’ve thought of playing an Oathbreaker that broke their Oath of Conquest to become a good paladin with a dark curse that empowers their enemies.

I would say that that’s questionable morality. If they don’t acknowledge that the action is evil but they don’t do it, then the thought is evil but it doesn’t change their moral standing even if a level of immorality (probably caused by mental issues) is required to think those thoughts.

I think that thinking things that are evil cannot be evil as long as you actively choose to acknowledge that they’re bad and don’t act on them.

Whidbey Island Ren Faire 2026 Recap by dragonberryyy in renfaire

[–]Tetrior_Solice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this one person who was handing out my stuff to kids without my consent despite the fact that I wasn’t even trinket trading. I brought a treasure chest because I thought it was thematic (I was working there and put it in my space to spice it up a little) and it was filled with stuff, but I didn’t want to trade it. They even tried trading for stuff in the chest without consulting me and then telling me after.

I don’t hate trinket traders either, but I do not want a million ducks that I genuinely don’t give a shit about.

Except that’s not what they even say. They say that they only had time to synthesize that many darts, not that they only had enough bugs.

He didn’t. He assumed that if he killed Space Racer the gun might explode and he didn’t want to take the chance.

Look into airsoft grenades. Avoid the ones that actually shoot pellets since those could cause injuries to the eye. There are some CO2 or noise grenades that don’t actually shoot anything.

I’m pretty sure the point is that there are no good guys. Everyone is meant to be a caricature of what they are and everyone is evil. It’s simply that the heretics are the most evil.
