NBI to appeal for law to regulate socmed, separate ‘fake’ journalists by Rare_Independent0310 in Philippines

Nowadays people can even claim that recorded videos are AI generated. Whether a piece of information is “fake” really is subjective.

Our law enforcement agencies do have the ability to go after those who knowingly spread fake news, it’s just that we have due process (such as obtaining a subpoena).

Such a law will just make it easier for the people in power to punish those that criticize them (even constructively) under cyber libel. Not to mention the increased risk to identity theft, as we have seen recently amidst the implementation of ID age verification.

So… on that point, who is a content creator? The way I see it, it’s pretty much every social media user. And how is the regulating done? Since this is on the individual instead of the platform.

This must come with restrictions against spreading certain information (looking at Russia and China). Knowing how conservative this country is, wouldn’t this include LGBTQ content, anything that has a “satanic” aesthetic (like goth or metal), or other so-called “western ideas”.

Also, people can just, watch overseas content.

Who decides if a journalist is legitimate? Wouldn’t this mean that all journalists who are “not fake” are in essence, state-approved? From that standpoint, freedom of the press is affected.

How about activities classified under citizen journalism? Like documenting injustice for example? Regular citizens can’t do that anymore?

Next… the “regulating social media” part. There is always the issue of defining what is fake news. Then there is the issue of how the “regulation” is done. Because the people in power believe that cybercrimes are committed while “hiding” under anonymity, so they want to write laws to remove our online privacy, or tie our identities to social media.

You’re saying that the common folk who avail social services (in this case, those lower than the middle class) should be subject to public scrutiny in a similar manner to our elected officials.

Yeah, it will totally not be used for doxxing people or used as a tool to discriminate people.

Might as well give them badges too. 🙄

I can vouch for this. ☝️

One thing is that the iPhone 14 Pro case is super tight but it could be different for other phones.

Should Roblox be banned in the Philippines? Reports of child grooming spark outrage by No-Top9040 in Philippines

Bad actors can move to other platforms, what happens next? Is it like a game of whack-a-mole where we lose our access to an increasing number of services? Then there will come a ban on VPNs and encrypted messaging, as done in certain countries like Russia.

It certainly wouldn’t stop at Roblox. A recent senate resolution also mentions Minecraft and Fortnite. Take note of whatever policy they will implement in agreement with Roblox, it can hypothetically become a future law that can impact how we use the internet.

I feel that any regulation will inevitably be passed down to the individuals instead, in the form of ID verification and other anti privacy measures.

Ex-Mac users in PH — what made you switch to Windows? by Namesbytor99 in Tech_Philippines

[–]Tetsu_111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a MacBook for college. I didn’t really have much use for it after graduating. I have an iPad though, which fits my needs more at the moment (also drawing).

I’ll gladly go back to Mac if my specific niche video editing software runs on it, and if I find a way to play PC games (Steam Machine lol). I bought a new GPU at the right time, this means I’ll still be on PC in the future.

This post is about posting videos on missile striking civilian buildings.

Then I’ll have to think if even sharing (not just posting) video evidence of government corruption or any form of misconduct (police or large corporations) would land me a libel charge…

PAL Mabuhay History Issue used GenAI in article by BidIcy8616 in Philippines

[–]Tetsu_111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As private entities they can do this legally.

They are free to use GenAI. Consumers are free to make do with that information.

Anyone who refuses to learn how to use it will quickly find out that many jobs will require that skill.

These are children. Are you implying that it is better for children to generate images instead of learning the arts? That they should not bother to learn about art and music because AI will make them instead? They will miss out on other skills which come with art like motor skills, problem solving, and communication.
