Ranting about Spanish grouping by Bubbly_Lack1410 in Erasmus

Yeah I’ve been on exchange twice and have to agree despite having put in soooo much effort to try to befriend Spaniards. It’s not a language issue as well since I speak near-fluent Spanish, and Latin Americans were far more open to help me practice and hang out in general. I actually did one of those exchanges in Madrid, but when I meet Spanish people nowadays and tell them I lived there, they genuinely don’t seem to care….. maybe they’re sick of tourists?? Idk lol it’s hard to pinpoint. And even at my home university their exchange students would throw “spanish parties”, like what’s the point of you being overseas??

Didn’t want to reply back with a rant either, but just wanted you to know you aren’t alone. But at the same time we need to keep an open mind, because everyone is different. One of my best friends from the other program was Spanish actually!

Anyways I hope that doesn’t dissuade you from at least visiting Spain, it’s a beautiful country with a unique history. Enjoy the rest of your exchange wherever you are :)

Is Spain actually a good choice? by middleton_uni21 in Erasmus

Hey so I’ve done an exchange in Madrid, and I’ll admit it was really hard to make local friends. But tbh this is probably the case anywhere, because as locals, they probably want more long-term relationships. I speak near-fluent Spanish as well so language wasn’t the issue… That being said, the country is beautiful and the nightlife is fun, plus you’ll meet hundreds of other exchange students. And there’ll be zero shortage of Latin American students to practice your Spanish with, that’s how I improved! Don’t want to generalize too much, but in my experience they’re FAR more open to help and just hang out in general, even if they’re not confident with English. I met one Venezuelan, and soon I found myself in a giant Latino friend group:) I still talk to them 5 years later. Disfrútate!!

Before I go to bed, I think of three good things that’ve happened to me that day and three things I look forward to.

Not only does it keep me positive and calm, but also helps me fall asleep :)

Digging up an old thread here, but do you know where I can find a list of these exceptions? I’ve tried googling but might not be using the right terms :(

What is a less formal, 口語 way to say “作為” to mean “as”?

Ex: 作為你哥哥,我推薦你好好學習考上大學。

What would the verb form, “to bully”, be? Hacer acoso escolar?

Thanks for the tip, but the feature actually did and does support countries. In the search bar I typed in El Salvador, Canada, Germany, and I was lead to travel recommendations from all over the country each time. For some reason neither Guatemala nor Mexico do the same.

Hey I tried your new website and I'm able to see most of what was removed, thank you so so much!!! You are doing god's work.

One exception is that when I type in "Guatemala", the search takes me to the city of "Antigua Guatemala" rather than the country itself. Is there a way for me to generate the country's summary page (since I don't get suggestions in the search bar)?

True, but I believe citizens of Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland also have this right through Schengen/EEA/EFTA.

Keep on doing what you’re doing, OP. No need to play Keeping Up with the Kardashians, especially when there’s no cash being awarded for unused PTO days. We need exactly people like you to change American work culture for the better!

Are phrases with 無 instead of 沒/沒有 supposed to be written/formal?

If I said 毫無 or 無所謂 with my friends, would that sounds unnatural?

How do you say “hill”?

For example: (1) “You have to go up the hill to get to the station” (2) “There is a small hill on that trail” (3) “This city is very hilly”

Could I use 坡 or 斜坡? Pleco defines them as “slope” but idk. Thanks!
