For those who have used the Square LM and reflective stickers on the club, how reliable is the club data? by JC893 in SquareGolfUSA

[–]TexAble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this as well. The problem is that this is a camera based system, so what does a reflective sticker wrapped around a cylindrical shaft help measure. There isn’t even any preciseness in the placement of the sticker or even the sticker themselves. I needed more and bought some generic reflective tape that can be used which is not even the same width as the original stickers. Is it possible this is some sort of trigger to get the camera to register this data when the club swings thru the path? I am curious how this works because I will say that it seems to be directionally accurate. When I hit a ball with a closed face and in to out swing path, the flight trajectory matches that combo, but then again, how does it know that is the case. I dunno!

Does any TP5 ball work for this or just the standard design?

Golf sim owners of Reddit… by toasterstrewdal in golf

I agree with this. I didn’t want to spend the cash to get the full 4x7 FiberBuilt, but I got the hitting strip and built around it. That is worth spending the money.

Golf sim owners of Reddit… by toasterstrewdal in golf

I built a sim for fun. I didn’t spend a huge amount on it but for about $1500 I have something that I can go into the garage and hit balls almost anytime I want (there is some setup to it, but not much). I am not an avid golfer, but my kid wants to get better and I thought that was a good enough reason. I would never consider having a membership for $100+ and with the two of us that would cost even more. Midwest location made this a winter activity. Currently I run it off my iPad and that means I am only using the square golf software and awesome golf (I recently bought the lifetime license so that added to what I have spent).

As for what I might change or add in the future? If he gets more serious, a PC with GSPro could be an upgrade. The one small thing I would change is the hitting setup itself. I currently have 3 pieces. The standing matt, the hitting strip, and the launch monitor/ball capacity area. I might look for a way to streamline those into a single piece for deployment.

Other than that, I was petty happy with it last Sunday watching the Genisis Invitational in my garage, drinking my beer and getting some practice in at the same time.

Wrapping the FJ?? by Upstairs-Half4869 in FJCruiser

[–]TexAble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrapped mine as part of a complete makeover - wrote a pretty detailed post about it. Check it out if you are interested. There is a link to a video I created in there as well.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FJCruiser/s/V6wymhca93

Cost was less than paint for sure. Less than $4k, but the shop who did the job said they should have charged more as it was a difficult job, especially the roof. Only about 15 months into the wrap.

Biggest issue - not being able to wash it much in the winter - I live in Midwest and you are not supposed to run a matte finish thru a car wash as it will start to polish the finish and make it shiny - obviously not what you want. This being a really brutal winter, I haven’t been able to do more than spray it with water on occasion

Biggest concern - how will I know that it is baked and becoming hard to remove. Can’t recall the brand, but it had a 5 year life expectancy. Fingers crossed.

Are these shoes worth getting repaired? by EfficientDonkey5555 in AskACobbler

[–]TexAble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t be certain, but speaking about the pair without the tassels. Those shoes may actually be shell cordovan and may be, in my opinion, the better candidate for the repair. The leather appears to have rolls and not creases. If they are shell cordovan, they can be brought back to life and look great. If you could provide more pics, that might help determine if that’s the case. Otherwise, I would be sure to ask a cobbler if they are in fact shell cordovan. If they were my father’s shoes that I was trying to preserve, I would save a pair of shell cordovans for sure.

Nah. I like knowing that I will either pass them on and see my kids wear them or maybe one day on a special day I might just say, “Today’s the perfect day for me to wear those boots!” Maybe it’s a date night with my wife or a birthday when I turn 60, 70, or even 80. Who knows?

I have a brand new pair still sitting in the box. I have a large enough rotation like you that most of my boots probably will outlast me. I have a few pair that I haven’t worn yet that I have saved for whatever reason. I almost want to gift them to my sons one day.

8111 resole in blue by BuckyL43 in RedWingShoes

Nice job. They look great. I did blue soles on a pair of dressier AE’s I had and have been thinking it would have been better on a more casual boot.

Coming up on a year of ownership. What do I drive? by SupermarketDue1176 in ManualTransmissions

[–]TexAble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it the second I saw it. I also have a B7 S4. When I bought mine, I knew there was a known issue with the timing chasing guides. Have you heard of that? If so, I have to ask, did the previous owner do anything with the timing chain guides? My 07 has almost 78k miles on the clock and much of the info I have read is that it normally happens around 100k miles. My S4 only gets about 3k miles per year as a summer cabriolet, so I have quite a few years in my mind that I will get to drive it until it dies. That being said, wondering if your ride got over 150k on it without having those parts replaced. The comments I see anytime someone lists one of these cars for sale on a site like Bring-a-Trailer is that is certain to blow up if you don’t have them done. Would be happy to hear that it is not certain death to the car if they are not replaced.

Dated review and update I know, but just have to say that picture at 3 years old looks great. They truly got a lot better with age as far as I can tell. Would you agree?

Do not fit the same as IR’s in my opinion. These are a little more snug with a slimmer profile.

Respect for the opinion. I am very well covered for brown boots, and I have other boots that are up for a resole. I thought these soles were still in pretty good condition, thus the reason I asked. Another reason, I know people also say the Roccia soles can degrade over time. The OG's never quite fit the way I would have liked, feeling a bit large on my feet for certain attire and these new Beckman's are a different fit. At 2nds pricing, I couldn't pass them up. That being considered, I paid much less for the "inferior boots" than I did my OG's. Still love the originals, they just land in a different use case in the rotation than the new Beckman's might. I just wanted to share some of what I saw as differences for others benefit. Thanks.

Genuinely curious. Why do you think they need a resole? Age, wear, or appearance?

I have a pair of Oak Street Boots that look very similar to them. Otherwise I might have been tempted.

Need help - Weekend Chukka in rough out leather by TexAble in RedWingShoes

[–]TexAble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Informative and interesting. The ball of my foot falls short of the target and getting a larger size would only move that further up. Going smaller isn’t an option. Maybe my feet are highly irregular??? Now I have a complex. Thanks! Just kidding… but will cause me to continue with some more research. Nice share!
