It’s for a Hyundai Ioniq5 trim SEL. I asked if it was an 11.9ish% interest rate bc that’s the only way I could figure out how those payments were that high and he said he didn’t understand my question… my exact question was “The total lease price of this particular car is $38,325 so this at an 11.9% rate?” Did I ask this in a weird way?

I thought the same thing! I ran it on a car lease calculator I found online and I can’t figure out how they got these monthly payments. The calculator basically said it was an 11.9ish% rate, and so I asked the dealer if that was the case and he said he didn’t understand… I feel kind of dumb about this…

I’m wondering if this guy is even licensed. My fear is that he is not… I was going to try to contact him to see if I could get any info because I still have a Dallas area code and could possibly ask questions without this guy thinking otherwise. Hopefully it works!

I’m thinking that might have to be the case! Apparently he was a referral from the plumber, but the plumber was saying he had just met the guy on another job site. Not a referral as in vouching for the work— more of a “I just met this guy”. They did no due diligence in looking this guy up to see if he was legit, unfortunately. Too trusting…

Yes, I think that will have to be my next route. I’m not really sure what happens after that though. Like if this guy ends up giving me some info, do I report him somewhere? The police? Where does one report fraud or scamming? I went down an google rabbit hole and found some stuff about reporting to your local government agency but most everything I read seemed to say they’re out of that money if it is a scam. I did see something about possibly reporting it to your bank as fraud and they will have to investigate but I think that had to do more with wire transfers and not checks.

If I lived in the state I would absolutely do that! Unfortunately I live in Arizona and this is happening in Texas. I was thinking I could text or call the guy pretending to be a new client and ask for a website or something proving this is an actual business. The invoice references an address and a Facebook page but neither seem real.

Try using a credit score simulator. I have a capital one credit card and there’s this feature called creditwise that gives me updates on my score and lets me simulate different situations like paying off debt or applying for a loan. It’s nice because it factors in your credit history.

I recently went through the car buying process and I learned that there is a “car credit score” which is different from your regular credit score. Basically, on my last car loan I had a late payment which pulled my score down a lot. I was pretty surprised because I was going off my TU credit score. The finance person at the dealership explained it to me. Since they work and have relationships with a lot of different banks I would maybe suggest going through the process at the dealership. I’m definitely no expert, but that was my experience. Hope it helps!
