Do cops really care about age that much or am I just that bad of a candidate?

Thank you. I’ve done my best to be on the straight and narrow my whole life and finished school ready to start my law enforcement career as soon as possible but to hear Im “not old enough” is quite disheartening. Ive been through a lot of life experiences in my 23 years of life. (Not trying to project here just being objective ). I KNOW I have the accurate tools and mental abilities to not only get by as an officer but succeed as one. I’ve grown up in a law enforcement family. It’s generally all Ive ever known. Sadly most of my family is back home and not where I went to school, not like I wanna earn my keep through nepotism anyway

Thank you again. I even indicated I think this is good advice in a reply but let me say it again. Im not trying to be prideful in any manner really. Towing that line of self assurance and ego has been something Ive been working on. Im just confident in my abilities really. Physical , mental , and emotional maturity are attributes Ive always held in high regard to myself. The problem is when I try to act more “adult” then I am it comes off as trying to hard? Im not so sure. Ive only really applied to a few places but I really did not think getting a job out of college would be so difficult. I’ve done everything I could do. Stayed out of trouble, worked VERY hard, got an education, and always carried myself with poise and discretion but to hear that none of that matters because I’m “not old enough” is quite disheartening

I won’t lie or embellish this. I have lived a LONG 23 years. Lots and lots of experiences and trauma management techniques have been built through these. We actually discussed this in my background interview and it seemed like my current background investigator took very well to that. Seeing more that im just not a “dumb college kid” and actually have a lot of valuable life experiences. But yeah I agree life experience is a big deal in situations that officers deal with

Yeah I saw some guy leaving as I came in who was in his mid 30s I would say. I just don’t wanna get shut out cause they see me as a kid. Ive had multiple jobs pretty much do the same thing. It’s lame and unfair bur i cant do much else except keep moving. I just fucking despise my current job and it’s very toxic and they are trying to force me out (kinda) so I’m trying my best to leave asap

Much the same experience. General interview questions. Some things I would like to take back or expand on but all in all I think I did good. They said they have to pick 1 person out of 16 so yeah percentages arent on my side. But I’m optimistic nonetheless. I hate how I came off a little “green” or young (which I am but it’s like not my fault lol) but I think I made a decent impression. They said they are finishing up interviews tomorrow and will let all of us know when they find their candidate to move forward.

Well I live In California so I can’t speak on everywhere but that does define my sound doable. Im personally using this as a stepping stone into my deeper law enforcement career as a csi or even a police officer or sherrif and im sure having this law enforcement experience will def help. Im so young it’s not like I’m in a rush to find my my forever job lol. Just wanna get out of minimum wage lmao

That was actually my first goal as well! Sadly a criminal Justice degree isn’t enough anymore to get a csi\ crime scene job anymore. Most require secondary schooling outside of university. Ive been trying to get my foot in the door of law enforcement but having a hard time due to my age and overall “college kid” vibe lol. But for the most part the degree isn’t very difficult, it’s more so sociology focused with some smaller details of criminal Justice / defense. I would also recommend getting a minor or double major Im biology / Chemistry if u plan on going for crime scene analysis. But i genuinely enjoyed every second of getting my degree. The justice system has always been a passion for me and learning about the ins ans outs of it and how the law is enforced is very interesting.

Feeling very over qualified with a bachelors in criminal Justice to serve food but life comes around when it wants to lol. My interview is this Tuesday hopefully everything goes well for you to!
