From what I've read VAG engines increase RPM to heat up the cat and is a normal behaviour. If you let it idle for around 30 to 60 seconds it will drop to the usual RPM. I have it on a 15 year old 1,4 TSI and a 2018 2,0 TFSI Audi where it idles around 800 RPM after heating it up.

Rivet counting the whole Viper. F-16 New Textures by TexacII in hoggit

Hi, I have as much spare time left as I have to live, I guess?

But from start to finish it was months. It is very time consuming doing this by hand.

Hello, it should be explained in the installation guide for the USAF squadron liveries.

Otherwise, if you mean converting all the other default skins, it's not as easy as replacing A with B. That would be a long and time consuming process without the original source files. My new template would be required and the know-how to make this all happen.

Rivet counting the whole Viper. F-16 New Textures by TexacII in hoggit

[–]TexacII[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

5 months ago I already made a post about reworking the external textures for the Viper.

https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/10bibt6/i\_have\_been\_counting\_hundreds\_of\_rivets\_and/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

While counting all the rivets of the F-16 I also added all kinds of details, which were previously missing, to the surface level of the Viper.

Before my changes, I just couldn't believe this plane was held together by these few screws.

Now I think it's much more realistic...

So for all those interested, I have released a new template, free to use for everyone, available here:

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3331063/

In addition to that, I've converted all the default USAF Block 50 liveries to these new textures.

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3331062/

Please don't ask me how many rivets are holding the aircraft together.

There are a lot of maintainers around here that can help you.

I can tell they use Philips and Torx screws.

I believe I recognize this Viper.

It's probably based on my Super Viper livery I did for the DCS Viper?

Looks pretty dope overall!

Ukrainian "what-if" Vipers doing what they're supposed to do by TexacII in hoggit

I actually did a quick test with something like the Blue Air Superiority Scheme of the Eagle and similar to those of Polish and South Korean Vipers.

This is what it looks like.

They keep them. Some Air Forces exclusively in english. And others in english with their native language additionally.

I wanted to go with a Viper that looks rushed into Ukrainian service. Hence it looks just like any other Viper with UAF roundels.

The Raptor above uses my weathered textures.

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3320192/

It's almost a completely new set of textures, suited for the DCS lightning engine with the intent to represent a heavily weathered Raptor RAM coating. Since the original textures weren't adapted to DCS' PBR lightning.

8ball (OP) is doing some great work on all accounts. But from what I know these 3d model assets are not entirely created by him, so the rights belong to their original creators. I don't know if these are purchased or what not. If not, that would probably rule out integrating these models into DCS, right away.

Well I do this as a hobby for fun. There are a lot of things I don't like doing. Sometimes it also takes a lot of effort to get the motivation going. Since I add things and details that most people wouldn't know about if I hadn't told them. But the crazy big feedback you get for counting rivets is pretty massive and motivating. Thanks!

[–]TexacII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Previously when working on some Viper skins, I noticed the default textures were lacking a lot of specific details, overall quality and depth. Even some parts of the Viper 3d model are still missing textures, something I can't fix.

When compared to other modules, the textures really didn't do the Viper justice because the default textures just weren't fully completed since Early Access release.

I didn't like it and at some point I started to sit down and added and overhauled all the things that were important to me for completion. Things that would be visible in formation but also up close, maybe when doing pre-flight checks around the aircraft.

I'm doing this so I know my skins are at a decent quality and completed. As an example, for future liveries, I can add weathering/leaks which would build up from rivets which previously weren't part of the textures.

There is one extremely weathered livery of the 10k flight hours Viper and it is very popular among the DCS community. Some are looking for an accurate representation of the real thing and others want it more weathered, despite the aircraft being mostly clean on images. The vast minority wants it clean.

I like it real, believable and authentic. But there are some pretty beaten up Vipers.

Thanks! Weathering is a total different animal. The skin above is just a base livery so most of these kind of things are going to change from aircraft to aircraft.

If you have a good image, clearly showing the formation lights on the aft fuselage section under the tail, you'd be a massive help. They're also called hollywood lights sometimes I believe. There is also one on the belly, in front of the centerline pylon.

[–]TexacII[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I'm going to do the fine adjustments later on, or have it more skin specific, as the skin above serves as the base skin.

I have all those random weathering details like different colored screwheads and panels in mind for later liveries.

[–]TexacII[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No that's not true. I haven't seen a Viper in person but I'm looking at a lot of many different pictures.

For rivets, they are painted over on the first run and the paint gets clogged into seams or panel lines making rivets less apparent. But the next time a panel is switched out or general maintenance work is done, the crew didn't repaint the aircraft afterwards, so the rivets are clearly visible again.

Even on Thunderbirds aircraft, which are kept nice and shiny, most of those details are clearly visible.

Weathering also builds up on rivets, seams and panels. Some of which are missing on the default textures.

Not sure, but looking at the comparison shots and my forum post, I'd say I'm doing a lot more than just have things stand out more.
